so this thread i am missing man why did i not see this as title said suv and muscle cars
so i thought again a discussion like civic vs rolla but this looked like heaven to me
as i love two things
1 classic rock music
2 muscle cars
now even though i have a paper tommorow but i am glued to this thread
combine these both things and give me an open staright road then ultimate freedom
btw
which engines are in them i love v8s though
chevy used i think 250 l6 to 454 CU v8s so which one are in them both beauties do share

[/U][/I]Today, hum baap beta donon, went to see the Impala, while it was being fitted with the chrome fittings. Master Shayaan Hafeez took one look at the beast, and went into complete raptures. Yaani ke, ghashi ke daurey waley raptures! His words were: "Dad, we own no car like this. None of them. The Phantom, the pickup, the '64 or the '65 Impalas...even the Range Rover. None amongst them is anywhere near as beautiful as this car!"

I would tend to agree with him.

On a more serious note, I think iss gaari ke paise poorey ho gaye. For a son to have found his father's ride such an alluring car is credit enough. I mean...a 17 year old young man, finding a 45 year old car to be "incredible" is a rare thing in itself! Lekin, jiss cheez ka darr tha, woh bhi ho gaya. On his 18th birthday (Insha Allah), young Shayaan will be taking over custody of the '67 Impala as his first car, conveniently depriving his father of the pleasure to be gotten from this ride. Ulloo da patha na howey te!

Both the Impalas have V8s.

The '65 Impala has a 4.0L Toyota 1UZ-FE VVTi with Tiptronic transmission, which produces 300 bhp.

The '67 Impala has a 5.7L (350 cubic inch) Chevy small block with a TH350 three speed column shift, which produces 350 bhp.

Of course, in the absence of precise dyno readings, the horsepower figures of the original motors are just "dil ke khush rakhne ko, Ghalib yeh khayaal achha hai"

i am no expert but no nonsence exhaust and a chrome simota air filter is must for the 350
staright pipes from headers i say 3 inch diameter with no mufflers it will be loud as hell but just my thought

Sorry...I missed this post of yours, and only just read it now.

Actually, the Impala had been modified with a Buick 455 cubic inch (7.4L) engine, along with a TH350 transmission. When we rebuilt the Impala, we went for the "correct" 1967 vintage 350 V8, with its proper transmission. Thus, whilst the '67 Impala isn't actually COMPLETELY stock (since it has some modified fittings) it is very CLOSE to stock. Which is what we were aiming for, to begin with.

Of course, one of the additional modifications will be the sound system. And of course, there will be NOTHING but classic rock which will be played from it I've installed an absolutely monstrous system in the '65, and I'm very very pleased with it. An identical system is going to go into the '67, Insha Allah.

Another modification, are the 20 inch wheels with 295/40/20 tires. Some things just need to be different!

The 350 sounds absolutely fantastic. A deep, throaty, growl...which becomes a wonderful roar at high revs. The engine has also be done up in black with chrome embellishments, so it will look really good, Insha Allah. We've already used 3 inch pipes from the headers onwards, but each pipe has a muffler to produce a much more refined sound, than the pure decibels of a straight pipe. Once finished, the muffler should look and sound terrific, hopefully.

Thank you for the kind words, brother. Alhamdolillah, the car is indeed shaping up nicely, and the cosmetic modifications in terms of chrome fittings have worked out well. The pace of the progress, though, is annoyingly slow. Let's keep our fingers crossed for a speedy end product.

Yes sir...I was really surprised that the '64 Impala managed to "escape" from Multan to Pindi. But now that it's here, I have a feeling that it's going to undergo quite a radical rebuild!

The paint job is worthy of a car belonging to you, MashaAllah, it looks spectacular, I am personally not a great proponent of black for a project because it's quite tough to get right and is a very unforgiving colour in terms of the quality of body work but you sir have achieved perfection.

With regards to passing a car on to your son:

Thanks for the words of encouragement. The team has done a splendid job with the body work and the paint, and it's turned out better than I had even hoped for, by Allah's grace. We will be cutting/compounding it to perfection in the days to come, followed by some TLC with carnauba waxes, and finally, some sealant to keep the finish as pristine as circumstances permit. Young Shayaan Hafeez is going to have his work cut out for him, with a microfiber and wax all the time!

Some Progress Today

The best news I've received since the '67 rebuild started is the final date: 27th December 2012!

This is probably the 3rd or 4th "final date" I've received, but ab ki baari, I have reason to believe that we'll complete everything on time. The work on the interior has commenced, starting with the seats. The interior will be in absolutely beautiful smooth-black and wrinkled-camel colour leather. The final touches to the body, including the fitting of the windows, the door handles, and the chrome fittings are ongoing.

An addition today, was the fitting of the front radiator grille, which I'm happy to report looks absolutely smashing. Finally, this ride is turning into the "Supernatural" machine it was meant to be!

How good an engine is the 2JZ-GTE for a smallish car, and what would be the price range for a 2JZ-GTE with a ready-mated automatic transmission? Would be very obliged if I could get some information from the speed freaks out there

2JZ is a monster engine i believe it would be in an KE 30 to 70 corolla or might be in my all time fav jdms the Corona MKII
btw sir if u can try one thing to the grill just do it with a removeable sticker at first if u like it then use some cheery red paint
the Chevrolet emblem at the front grill would pop out to the eye when it will be red i know its ur car but i am tempted to see it in real as my Father always talks about his friends who had impallas in 70's i have seen vaxhalls but if u have seen Peshawar its all packed with new cars its rare to see such cars even MKII MX10's are getting rare here just full of mehrans and new cars

Actually, the car I've seen is a beautiful 1985 Celica coupe...the JDM liftback version I was wondering if the 2JZ-GTE would make a good fit in its engine bay.

With regards to the red highlights you were mentioning, we will be painting the "Chevrolet" emblem in bright red, with the embossed lettering in chrome. Other than that, the front and rear drum brakes are going to be painted in bright red, as well. So, yes...it should be quite an eye-popping result.

It's rather unfortunate that these cars have run into ruin over the years, and have been almost completely snuffed out by the locally-assembled "Jap-Crap". Peshawar is not the only city where we have been overrun with Japanese cars...it's everywhere. Which is why, driving a vintage vehicle is such a distinctive pleasure, and keeping these beasts alive and well, is such a challenge!
