Three chairs for you Rezvaan for bringing up one of the most informative threads on PW, I have been visiting here and have admired your passion and dedication silently so far. Thank you for sharing a good chunk of your knowledge and experience here with us.

I have a 69' Delux which I bought in 2006 and kept as my daily runner till last year, couldn't work on it and that "one day" syndrome had been lingering on till last week when I finally decided to swap one of my priorities with rescuing and derusting my 69er. Your thread can play a vital role in helping me trying to stop my Beetle being rusted out to the core.

I will be starting a thread today, hope you as well as other VW veterans share their tips and tricks in helping me save my old-timer.

ASPEC series has low traction in rain & wet roads tread pattern (foot print) for hydroplaning

It is for DRY & sandy places like Gulf

the tyre date 0711 is not july 2011, its the 7th week of the year 2011 - which is about feb 2011 - meaning you are short one year of tire life already.

Oh I didn't know that the number 7 actually denoted week. Anyway thanks. About one year less to start with on tyre life shouldn't be big deal as I change tyres every couple of years (every alternate winter). Here are previous tyres which still have almost 5mm+ tread on them:

I would have punched the shopowner hard in the face for trying to sell me one year old stock at full price. When I buy tires I always make sure that the tyres are a max of 3 months old.

Any tire does not age with running life but ages with the date of manufacture. After 6 years any tire is considered done and dusted.

btw the ET on the rims seem to be incorrect for a cultus - do you have a very wide turning radius? what is the ET anyway?
