Can someone please tell me how to clean rust from the internal exhaust fins inside this exhaust grill? There is a very lil surface rust but still there is, so want to clear it somehow.

That is one of the most tricky part to clean on a Bug. What you will have to do is buy a wire brush and poke it into the narrow spaces and underneath the fins from the engine bay and try to clean it as much as possible.

wash it with a dish wash liquid solution and a sponge then hose off with water..repeat a few times. Do NOT use kerosene or other mineral oil solvents to clean.

The car came just fine from the manufacturer. What's a VW if you cannot hear the nuts and bolts rattling in a bucket? The only thing I'd improve in my car is the rust proofing..the rest I can live with.

you find it interesting that the cars sold in the US and Europe came with a better quality sound proofing. I drove a blue 68 owned by a Mohsin (Romano's friend in Rwp.) and it was amazingly quiet even at highway speeds. My Billo is the same and even with a bigger engine the sound level in the car is fairly low. The cars made and sold for Pakistan, for some reason, did not have the same level of sound proofing. Pricing issues maybe?

I agree with your observation but I think there was a difference in the finish of the cars that went to various markets. The US market was the largest for VW and they took great care to capture and hold it. Billo too is a US model car and was bought in the US before being sent to England and then to Pakistan by the previous owner. Luckily it had all its original soundproofing intact and is very quiet inside. The only other car that I experience the same level of noise (or lack of it) was inthe blue car owned by Romano's friend. Wonder what happened to it? It was a beautiful car but was neglected for years.

it was a LHD but an amazingly clean car. Another car, coincidently the same colour is with a gentleman in Super market Islamabad. That was the cleanest car I ever saw in Pakistan when bought . It even had the original service booklet that was stamped when the car was serviced in the UK. This second car is a RHD

I found out just today that another amazingly clean car was sold for a bargain price and the new owner now wants about 16 times the price he paid....
