The carb does seem to have the strip in place, circled in red. If you look at the LHS tip of this strip you'd see a small hole for the spring to go through.

You need a short sized spring for this carb. Some carbs accept longer springs. Check the one you have, you may need to get a shorter one.

Many mechs put the spring thru the air cleaner clip as seen on Patina. Gives a slack spring a new lease of life. Sometimes used to 'cure' a sticky and tight throttle too :o

Yes sir it surely is a Land Cruiser but its 1984, all stock, with a sunroof. Its my brother's hobby car. He is into Off Roading and all. Has been keeping MUTTs (M-151) and various other Off Roading Machines every since he was in college.

And I know you have been very fond of Land Cruiser as well. I remember seeing a white landcruiser somewhere on your facebook photos.

Oh you are not getting old Doc. There definitely is the strip attached as you mentioned and its broken. Needs replacement. We can try new spring from my stash once I have located and replaced this strip with a sound one. Here are a couple of pictures for you/close-ups.

Here is the set up in Billo. I have used a small piece of rubber pipe to connect the metal fuel pipe to the fuel pump. The metal pipe exits thru the backing plate and is connected with a rubber pipe to the in-line fuel filter and to the fuel line emerging from the tunnel. As a second (or should I say first?) line of defence I have an in-line filter right under the fuel tank too so the grit and grime from the fuel tank does not get into the fuel line in the tunnel. So far it has worked very well as the fuel quality here is very good and I am running the same filters for the past 3 years.

I agree with Asad that the extra weight of the fuel filled filter and the vibration can pull out the copper pipe out of the carb spelling disaster.

 The carb shown above is probably a 30 PICT series. On these and the 31 and 34 series, this metal piece is held vertically like shown above. The 28 PICT is perhaps the only one to have this horizontally placed. The position of the 'custom made' strip on Reezvans carb is correct which uses one of the carb top screws to hold it in place (as against a dedicated screw like the one above).

 I shall try to locate the missing piece on any 'parts carbs' I come across.

I wanted to seek your opinion regarding use of the 30 PICT 3 carb on a 1200cc engine like you have on Billo. From what I know, the 1200 economy bugs of 1974 vintage came with these.

How is this carb as whole?? Esp, is it difficult to tune like the 34 PICT series, having two adjusting screws??? I got a very nice 'godaam kay maal ka' 30 PICT 3 recently, want to know if its a good choice.

I have a 1600 single port setup and I am using a 34 PICT 3 carb. I did use a 30 PICT 3 on a 1200 high compression engine once and it was a breeze to tune up (adjust fuel mixture and idling) I am surprised they are still around. Haven't seen one in ages. Just rebuild the carb with one of the kits I have sent and use it on your 1200. You can't go wrong. What is the butterfly like? Hope your carb does not need to be rebushed. That can be a pain and the main reason I abandoned its use.
