Woow you people have already discussed what problem am i facing the wire moves perfectly but the sending unit has some problem. I will screw it out today. For thats starting problem I changed my petrol filter now my babe starts at half key stroke again. :D... Now for the part to clear the rust from the petrol tank any suggestions regarding that ? I am gonna take out the sending unit today. Yesterday I took out the fuel gauge opened it up cleaned and oiled it. Now em thinking to put LED's into it So haven't put it back yet. Next task in the list for today is to take out the sending unit. Please tip me on how to clean the tank's rust because this is my 3rd petrol filter in past 2 months. It mostly happends when I go low on fuel and due to faulty meter I am unable to know exact level of fuel.

Are you planning on doing it yourself or at the workshop? It’s really quite simple but you should schedule it when you have little or no fuel in the tank. Meanwhile collect any old nuts and bolts, ball bearing 'balls' or go to a bicycle shop and get some old bicycle chains..(one or two ). Remove the fuel tank; plug the drain at the bottom by wrapping a piece of rubber tubing with some flexible wire. The idea is to retain the fluids in the tank as you perform the 'procedure'

Remove the fuel level sending unit.<o:p></o:p>

Pour a couple of litres of kerosene oil in the tank and add the bicycle chains. With the help of a friend hold the tank level and shake the hell out of the tank. The sloshing chain or the nuts and bolts work wonders to remove the rust crusts that may have formed in the tank. Empty tank, rinse with clean kerosene and repeat. Use a flashlight to check progress.<o:p></o:p>

Repeat if necessary till the kerosene comes out clean. Make sure you remove all nuts, bolts and balls or chains before you re-install the tank. Reinstall the sending unit. <o:p></o:p>

If you are performing this procedure at the workshop and have access to compressed air, try blowing air thru the main line after disconnecting the flexible fuel hose before it attaches to the fuel pump. This would remove the fine particles of rust that may have entered the main fuel line.<o:p></o:p>

Reconnect everything and while you are at it you may want to replace the fuel hose too. <o:p></o:p>
<o:p></o:p>
Refill soon to prevent new rust from forming.

Personally I prefer to install a fuel filter in the flexible pipe between the fuel tank and the fuel line just before it enters the tunnel. This prevents debris from getting into the main fuel line.

You should also visit a motorcycle painting facility - the pakistani motorcycles face internal tank rusting problems, and to remedy this, the painters use nmshaikhs technique to clean and then spray a protective paint inside the tank, for sure the tank will never rust again.

Had sent @Storm the Post 68 Black Stock Steering Wheel/Column for his THING soon after it was mutually discussed and after a while he dug out the White 1965 Stock Steering Wheel from his stash and shared the following pictures of the same:

As can be clearly seen its face paint has been totally worn out but then the good thing about it seems to be that the cracks on the wheel are lot less than the ones which the Original One on Patina has suffered over the years and plastic coating over the metal wheel has completely chipped off at quite a few places.

It has been agreed that @Storm would get it restored with epoxy and would hand over the same without the paint to avoid any damage to the paint while tranist. I would then get it finally coated with the final paint here in Multan.

interstingly the rim is wooden, initially i thought this was normal but when i checked the net there is no record (at least nothing i could find) of the steering wheel being made of wood. i consulted romano, sme answer (they are supposed to be plastic).

next i thoguht that it is possible that the rim was changed but that isn't possible as it is part of the centre too so it seems it's all wooden.

this has got me scratching my head as i've never seen this before. at leasat (if nothign else) it'll help me prep the steering a little easier.

any input from anyone about wooden steerings would be appreciated.

Sunday started early today with lots on the list to accomplish. The foremost was the Leaking Sending Unit on the Tank.

Took the suggested route and removed the metal cover to find the top goblet filled with leaking fuel.

Was disappointed but not for long. Cleaned and dried the area and the problem was sorted out. Its the leaking seal and not the goblet on the top!

had the same issue with the thing, mumtaz (mechanic) changed it but i'm not sure what material he used as i was not present when he did it. perhaps romano might have some insight.

i used to go through ALOT of fuel before as the leak was pretty severe, now i almost never have to fill her up,... WOOHOO!!

May be you could help us all by asking Mumtaz or @romano on what material Mumtaz used to make a gasket to go on the Fuel Sending Unit and share it with us all here.

It would be another possible alternative to original Gasket other than the cork sheet and can help lot of people save from headaches on leaking fuel sending unit gaskets.

I double checked only this morning and apparently leaking was there but only minimal as I couldn't see any fuel but I could smell some. So the leaking was there nonetheless whether visible or not

This one is first for me too, a wooden steering wheel rim.

Now when I look closely on the closeup pic I am realizing yes its wooden. Should have been judged earlier, for two reasons; the cracks in plastic are lot uglier than the ones on this one and two, wood is quite visible to be seen in the pic right there.

Yep I agree that restoring it would be lot more simpler than the plastic one.

May be @nmshaikh could tell us all a little about wooden steering wheels if he has come across any.

VW did not have wooden steering wheels..what you see is bakelite or whatever material they injected around the inner metal core. When the outer enamel chips or wears off what you see does feel like wood but is not.
