those who own or have owned mazda luce would know that the biggest curse of owning a luce is that one does not have many (read none) options available of replacement wheels due to this unique stud pattern on luces ~ 4x120mm (pcd). factory wheels on luces are 14" size
only mazda 121/cosmo/rx-5, luce and 929L came with this stud pattern (pcd) other than very early hondas (i think 1st gen) or perhaps some early toyotas
PO of my car seemed to love the car but he made a choice that would eventually become my curse in the coming days. he used pitch convertors (4x120 to 4x100) and went with plentiful 4x100 pictch aftermarket alloy wheels in size 15.
when it was passed onto me, i started looking for factory original 4x120 wheels desperately because i wanted to go with stock wheels with factory hubcaps. i had little success finding a set (only needed 4 because factory spare came with the car in the boot). and when one was found, the seller wanted a hefty 12000 for the set. i was so desperate that i did actually pay him up via online bank transfer in khi, only to find out the next day that the seller had cold feet and he refunded me the whole sum saying he had second thoughts. his set was on a scrapped luce parked for ages.
left with no choice, i hunted down a Rx-5 set in netherlands and was ready to pay hefty shipping to pakistan because i was sick of looking at the super ordinary 4x100 alloys. meanwhile the hunt for the "right" wheels went on
one nice morning, i ran into these 4x114.3 uncommon wheels advertised online in islamabad, BAM! the SSRs!!! but was i ready to take up hunting down another pitch convertor set of 4x120 to 4x114.3??? i asked myself. only to find 'yes' as an answer. desperate times call for desperate measures, i guess
rang up the guy, he says he has the set but has been promised to one of his friends in UK who is supposed to return next week. i offered him swift cash value of the advertised sum but he wont budge. the story went on for 3 weeks until one day he asked me which car i want the wheels for, i wrote to him a mazda luce. next thing he tells me that i can have them
followed by a swift cash transfer, the guy fishes out the wheels from his storage of years and sends me the fresh pics. wheels clearly need redoing but did i see clearly? the set was actually a 7j pair and an 7.5j pair i thought by looking at the pics (good). i have a second look and i see they are not 4x114.3! then what are they exactly? BAM! could i be illusioned, i ask my self. could these SSRs really be 4x120s??? oh well, i cant be that lucky, can i now, i tell myself. anyway all said and done, the wheels are disptached
and the story after that is rather pictorial
the 4x120 to 4x100 pictch convertors

the 14" SSRs, note the width difference!

look, the 14" SSRs are actually XR4 LongChamps!!

BAM, they are 14", 4x120 SSR XR4 LongChamps! Jackpot!!!

now then could they be real original JDM Speed Star Racing 14" 4x120 XR4 LongChamps???

14" SSR XR4 LongChamps are rare but 4x120 XR4 LongChamps are 'super rare' (those who have worked with cars would know) therefore in the guess game post, i talked about hen's teeth even in the west
4x114.3 XR4 LongChamps average out in excess of US$1500/€1250 in the west for a good set. if 4x114.3 command that kind of money, imagine what would it be like to pay for a 'rarer' set of 4x120 XR4 LongChamps in the west
all that now remains about wheels on this car is some restoration of XR4 LongChamps, some original XR4 centercaps and some beefy tyres. any suggestions on the tyre size for these good old toys from the tyre gurus out there?
ok now, how do the 'once finished' LongChamps look on good old mazdas, 1200 wagon
or perhaps a ke70 rolla?
