Sorry for the late response guys, as I was busy at a Pakwheels meet. And thanks for the comments
The engine will be too much for an old corolla, and you will have difficulty putting it in. I would suggest a 3sge rwd setup for that.
This particular setup of the 1JZ has a single larger turbo rather than two sequential ones. However with the clever use of vvti, toyota has been able to increase the torque output and make it peak at a lower rpm as well. So in my opinion this is a more flexible engine in terms of power delivery.
You could attach a manual tranny but I would not recommend a manual tranny on this engine, since controlliing and launching such a powerful engine can be problematic and reduces the driveability of the car. But that could be good option if the car that is getting the engine can handle such abuse (rx7 for example). A flat and well spread torque curve like this engine has, combined with a strong top end, and an auto tranny makes a good choice if you ask me.
Anyone with an old celica, cressida, crown would have a lot of fun with this engine!
Cheers.
