1KD-FTV with AB60F transmission in Landcruiser 70 series

Hey Guys, I am thinking of getting a 70 series landcruiser and do a complete rebuild of body (uplift to JMR) and engine swap and auto transmission. Any good ideas (I prefer diesel only due to fuel economy and torque). I know the popular choice is 1KZ with 4 speed auto but has anyone tried putting in 1KD-FTV with 6 speed auto (AB60F transmission). Will the mounts and tranny require modifications if the jeep already had 1KZ engine ?

1KD FTV swap in 70 is not common and hence limited replies and experience on Pakwheels.

Any good idea - imho and honest opinion - avoid it and buy a good original genuine vehicle which serves you more than you serve her and mechanics.

What is the budget and purpose of the build?

vehicle price plus 1.75 Million shall be your budget for such motor & power train swap.

In those digit figure you can comfortably find an SUV with motor & power train of your choice.

Well its more like a hobby project. I have a lot experience with 1KZ engine, I have done complete rebuilds of that engine so I am quite comfortable with it but fuel economy wise and power wise 1KD is better engine at least on paper hence my interest. As any Landcruiser I buy I would have to complete rebuild anyway as finding one in 10/10 condition is not possible (I have looked, usually interior is subpar, and engine compartment is a mess with engine giving all sorts of noises). I am interested in 1KD because of power and fuel economy but I dont know if the transmission of 1KD will mate with axels.

One can find good 1KD for 0.4 to 0.5 million. Putting it in is not much of a cost for me as I will do it myself.

Hobby restoration should be fun as long as you are fine with being the only hobbyist in the full process i.e. vehicle seller, parts dealer, mechanic. denter, painter, etc etc

Why AB60F?
A343F would be an easier option as it was mated to 1KD in some Prado models. This can reduce the work, be more reliable, with an easier drive train sync.

What is your opinion about issues in earlier versions of 1KD? and potential solutions?

aB60f axles mating might be difficult and not sure if the global forums would be on any help either.

With some patience and premium money, it is usually possible to find a good Land Cruiser that requires 10% work as compared to a restoration. Personally learnt it the hard way.

I have just finished my 70 series with 1 KZ and manual gears. I was contemplating that; maybe I will try changing to 1 HD sometime in the future. I believe the JMR conversion increases the space under the hood and should be doable with some modifications. Will appreciate if any one has done that or knows about it?
