I have a weird feeling that 1.2 city is going to reasonably undercut yaris 1.3 pricing.

Do you know that honda City 2003 to 2008 had L12 engine which is 1200cc but was advertised as 1300cc. Did anyone complaint about it being underpowered ? This time Honda Pakistan has been truthful by committing that they have a 1.2 litre engine.

Completely different engine technology. Idsi engine characteristics are completely different compared to i-vtec sohc. Idsi has good low end torque but low high end power while for ivtec sohc engines like l13z1, l15a7 and r18 its the exact opposite. That's why 1.2 4th gen city felt not that bad to drive and had good fuel efficiency. Plus our standards were lower back then considering even the 1.3 corolla was felt adequate by most. We can't expect to be fine with same power and performance as a car that is almost 2 decades old. Even then I remember people complaining a lot about that city's power and much preferring the power of the 5th gen 1.3.

I think 1.2 cvt will be the best variant resale wise with lower taxes...people always prefer size here or else no one can imagine having 1300 cc engine in 11th gen corolla...vitz with 1000 cc engine has decent power, 1.2 will be fine as well.

Honda City Pre Booking Scam

The company had planned to accept pre-booking of New (read: 7 years old) Honda City from 17th May 2021. Me, being an enthusiastic risk-taker, reached the bank at sharp 08:50 AM, got my pay order ready by 09:05 AM, and reached Honda Fort by 09:20 AM. it doesnt really matter if these little front engine cars have disc at the rear or drums, their front brakes have ample stopping power.
these cars require lesser breaking force at rear end, and drums do the job fine, y increase the price by putting in a disk and then you have to distribute the break force even further.
even the 7th gen city has rear brake drums for non hybrid.

edit: however in the case a car is full with passengers at the rear(3 or 4 adults), the disks would make a difference,

the ivtec 1.2 will have better low and high end torque as compared to idsi. Idsi had 2 valve 2 plugs per cylinder while ivtec has 4 valve 1 plug per cylinder , so it will have equal or better power at low and much better at higher rpm.
it makes 100nm at 2500 rpm while tops out at 114nm at 4800.

I think for the first time atlas has thought outside the box, that 1.2 can be their trump card. now when they are oairing it with a cvt, they can get very good real feel out put from the car as they dnt have to deal with fixed gear ratios.

The idsi has its max torque at 2800rpm (110Nm) while it takes 4800rpm to get max torque on ivtec (also 110Nm as on l12b3). I dont know where you are getting your info for low rpm torque as it definitely feels wrong as even 1.3 feels like nothing until around 3500rpm when the ivtec deactivates and there is a noticeable surge of torque. The sohc ivtec keeps one intake valve partially opened in the intake stroke to simulate atkinson cycle engines, reducing torque and increasing fuel economy. Idsi on the other hand focused on low end power (2 valve engines have better low end torque due to higher air velocity at low engine speeds) and focuses on higher efficiency from a more complete fuel combustion (2 spark plugs). Plus idsi was larger than a true 1.2 as it was 1246cc compared to 1198cc of vtec 1.2 further leading credence to the higher low end torque due to higher displacement. 1.2 will definitely feel weaker than idsi and even corolla 1.3 on lower rpms and no, cvt is not going to help much, if anything manual is gonna feel stronger.

Alsvin in Pakistan is lower specs. It has no stability control. The base alsvin in ksa is with floating display. I checked from their showroom. No alsvin sold in ksa is without floating display.

You might have seen an alsvin with removed display or covered by dash protector. That screen is prone to sunlight issues and can go dark if exposed for a long time in heat.

Reading the posts here it looks as if many people have already prebooked or are planning to do so very soon. And then we wonder why these companies opt for these shitty tactics, because we as a nation embrace it.

ivtec has 110 at 4.8k does not mean it will have 55 at 2.4k (it has close to 100nm.)
the torque is not a straight line but a curve, for idsi it was a good design but the torque chart was almost an inverted parabolla. the Ivtec produces almost 105 nm at 3k rpm and still has room to go till 4.8k while idsi peaks at 2900 and falls afterwards, hence it would feel low powered when you push it, the two sparkplugs were placed diagonaly at the place where the omitted valves would be, hence restricting airflow but impriving on the uniformity of combustion.

the ivtec chart is for jazz engine, which is L12B for jazz, pak has l12b3 (i think) but pretty close
the idisi chart (labelled as L13A) is the idsi one used in pkdm city.

The base alsvin in ksa is with floating display. I checked from their showroom. No alsvin sold in ksa is without floating display.

i often see that car in our parking lot, i'll take pic next time and share ... i am sure it is without floating display..
in fact, there's also review of alsvin on youtube which does not have that screen, which i was also surprised to see comparing with Pakistani lowest spec car.
