Please post whatever torque curve you're extracting your info for the 1.2 and 1.33 from.

There is no way 1.2 and 1.33 have the same torque curve or are even anywhere .

I might be slightly offtopic, but underpowered was never a complaint I heard about City 1.3. 1.3 Auto, well auto is a recent trend and most older 1.3 City on the road are manual. It may have just enough power, as someone else said, to get from point A to B, and a reasonable cruise on the motorway.

This is why my opinion is that Honda is better off keeping the 1.3 engine from current generation, and add CVT. A well tuned CVT will be able to pull good economy from the 1.3 engine, it is 98hp, similar to Yaris 1.3.

Now the 1.2 L12B3 is losing 9hp, and 9nm torque, pulling a similar, slightly lighter car. So if the whole system turns out to be underpowered, it will require to push accelerator hard or bear everyone honking, and the practical fuel economy might drop. Screaming XLi/GLi might change to now screaming City 1.2.

An excellent application of fuel-efficient system is Ciaz 1.4. With a lighter design, Kerb Weight of only 975 Kg, and 1.4 engine that has been tuned to produce 91hp. Overall, the system has adequate power, and excellent fuel economy.

Honda could have done something similar, but we should forget about them developing custom models for our small market.

12s is not a great number. The city 1.3 did it in about 11s and I predict the new 1.2 city will be around 13s.

Also again, overall underpowered feeling does not just mean slow 0 to 100. The honda 1.33 feels completely anemic in the lower revs. 1.2 will be even worse.

Yes the 1.3 was the minimum acceptable for this size of car. Honda should've continued on with it.

Oh yes the cvt is absolute garbage and i expect for the city one to be similar though it could actually be better since who knows since it tho i expect the former to be true, it's def not slower in general but the first 2 seconds of the rubber band effect it barely even moves.

As for the 1.3 manual , yes i've also beaten a few civics. I've seen most fellow civic x owners can't even accelerate it properly for some reason 🤷 even if the city 1.2 cvt may not be slower but with such drivers u might see an alto crossing it and people crying.

I own a 1.3 manual city and a 1.3 manual corolla. The city has a way faster 0 to 100 and is much stronger in the higher revs. Yet in regular driving corolla feels a bit better to drive due to better low end torque. Regular city driving feels depends more on low end torque. For example if I have to accelerate at 60kmh when in 5th gear, there isn't much of a need to downshift in the corolla, yet the city completely refuses to accelerate properly in those conditions and needs a downshift down to 3rd.

You are fixed on the fact that the city is 1.2L and judging everything based on how much HP it makes, whereas you are completely ignoring the weight, transmission, torque, power band which are responsible for how a car performs.

Get over it man. The 1.2L city will do just fine.

People buying oversize SUVs that are underpowered (MG ZS 1.5, Sportage, Tuscon) that do 0-100 in 11.5+ seconds, this will be ok if 0-100 is in 12-13 seconds range.

Low-end torque is important, if the engine is screaming, the petrol is being used to produce noise. If people have to make the engine scream to get the car rolling, well it might struggle to compete with Yaris 1.3 on fuel economy.

Honda should have kept the 1.3.

Most civic X owners are too scared to drive in S or L mode because it may destroy the car. Imagine the stupidity of thinking honda, a manufacturer which highly focuses on reliability, will include transmission modes which can destroy the car.

Kerb weight will be slightly less than the 1.5 petrols everywhere else in the world due to the lighter 1.2 engine. Pathetic Atlas will not add any extreme weight saving measures for our tiny market. So a lot of what everyone is saying will almost certainly turn out to be true.

Honda jazz in india with similar weight is doing pretty well in india , fuel average in city is 16 plus and on long 20 plus. I think city 1.2 will do very well.

Biased.
Whenever there is a praise for pathetic City from pathetic Atlas, you are all hooooo haaaaa wowwwwww. When there is slight criticism you are all lets wait for them to launch bla bla bla.

There are many important markets for Honda that are way more important for them in terms of number of sales and return of investment, yet there is no 1.2 in City there. So its real world performance is not known, low hp is low hp and low torque is low torque. Both HP and torque can be used better with better tuning and better gearbox, but in the end there will be limitations. Current knowledge of Physics will not overcome those, and Honda has so far not developed any anti-gravity devices to reduce car's weight.

Atlas is being pathetic and cheap, and criticism is totally warranted. They deserve a lot more than just criticism. People should cancel orders on delayed deliveries.
