Let's agree to disagree. In my opinion, if you're buying a car to keep for 4-5 years, you should buy something that gives you joy everytime you look at it and drive it. Depreciation is a factor in the decision to buy a car but it should not be the only concern. If I don't enjoy a car I buy but keep consoling my heart that I made that decision to potentially minimize depreciation, then I don't think I'll be happy in the long run. Life is too short to keep yourself from enjoying good cars.
One more thing to note is that the cycle of buying a car keeps repeating. So, if you're compromising on every car purchase, when are you gonna buy a car that you actually want without caring about depreciation?
