Wait why didn't the original head unit work with steering controls? I got the basic one in my base 1.5 city and the steering controls work perfectly.

Yes you should easily find the panel in the market and install a separate aftermarket head unit.

I'm sorry I am confusing Cutlus and City together.

I think, Cultus original headunit doesn't support steering wheel control that I got after market.

It is there. You don't feel very confident at speeds 160+.

When a bus crosses or you go through cross winds. I wonder how it wud be with old 175 tires.

hey @chinyoti / any other 2022 City aspire owners, could you confirm please if the head unit / stereo in City is Android based and if it lets you installyour own apps? E.g. can I side load an APK from a USB drive or from the Play store if needed? Also what Android version is the stereo running?

Haven't tried fiddling with apps, I installed Amazon prime on my way to islamabad by road.

It's not user friendly even for the passenger. Couldn't install Netflix it said device not supported.

In the dashboard the packet with remote and user manuals says "updated 9.0".

Tracking world uses a customized UI because of which customization is limited.

Locally avaliable Chinese units have better performance. But since I got a Corolla, Cultus and City side by side.

City's system is better of the lot. The sound quality is decent on original speakers, screen quality is also ok ok better then the nakamichi I got in Cultus.

Sound quality and bass is quite decent in Corolla too. But the system either hangs up or doesn't play YouTube.

in Corolla since first service YouTube doesn't work. Toyota says a software update will come that will sort out the issue.

If you are sound enthusiast get a good pioneer or Kenwood with a carplay attachment available on aliexpress or JDM experts on Facebook.

Hook it up, get branded speakers, tweeters a good amplifier

And you should be happy.

All in all rs. 150/175k you'll land up a good brand new sound system.

I am inclined towards swapping the head unit and speakers but main concerns stopping me doing that is:

• rattling or noise after the speakers are swapped out
• quality or wiring as I've seen horror stories or car fires due to local wiring jobs being done so bad.

Do you know any professional guys doing these tasks in pindi / isloo area - who do wiring properly eg doing heat shrink on cable joints, proper sound insulation etc as they swap in the new system?

Also if I were to keep it simple and just install quality speakers with a new Sony carplay head unit, without installing amps etc - do you know specific speaker model I need to get that would simply plug and play in existing city speaker hole in the door without requiring new wiring?

I'm hoping it's a simple speaker swap and head unit swap but I'm not sure which speakers to get ie specific size/model. I'd appreciate any guidance in this regards.

Regarding fires it's because no one installs a fuse with the battery wire leading to the amps. Do get that installed if you're planning on getting an amp.

If you get a good headunit decent speakers are sufficient they give decent base.

Amplifier is just a add on if you want loud sound, loud base, performance.

Thank you I'll go with the better head unit option then I guess. Is there a specific standard / variation for the speakers I need to buy? I want to buy online from a reputable place so anything like a particular size / fitting or a product page you guys could link to would be appreciated. I want to just plug and play new speakers without cutting cables or messing with different speaker sizes.

Grips wound need splicing or cutting since factory grips won't fit after market speakers.

Fitting size front 6.5" rear 6x9

You might still need to fit spacers or drill holes for perfect fittings. You installer can guide you better

I found a 6.5" speaker. It says Coaxial. Is this the right kind that can plug in to existing wiring on door for trh City? Or should I be searching for a different speaker type?

And do these speakers usually work without an amp?

Check the RMS wattage of the speakers you're buying. Go for low watt ones, I think under 40w is considered low wattage. Ignore peak power. Btw any speaker can work off of the head unit alone but might not sound good. Might even sound worse than the original speakers that come in the car as those ones are tuned to be run from the head unit and not amps. The installed wiring should work and you shouldn't need extra for coaxials.
