Not really. Modern engine and oil technology is far ahead of the 5k Kms or 6 months oil change requirement of the 90s. There's more than enough data throughout the world to support 10k Kms or 12 month oil changes and even that is conservative. People always bring up the point of "Pakistan's environment" but our neighbour India has the same environment and has gone to the 10k/12 months requirement for a few years now without any negative consequences.
I can personally vouch for this technique only saving money and leading to 0 bad consequences as my old 2010 1.3 corolla had no issues with it till I sold it last year with 225k on the odo. Similarly my other 1.3 honda city manual at 87k Kms is working as good as brand new as well alhamdulillah.
We Pakistanis need to start thinking for ourselves with proper research into what works and what doesn't rather than believing whatever the greedy dealers and mechanics tell us as they're in this business just to make money.
Funny enough my old corolla was sold to my mechanic who knew I delayed oil changes and had an issue with it as usual but he was very familiar with the car due to some other non engine related issues that happened and so bought the car happily and instantly once it came on sale as he knew the engine was healthier than most other corollas and that car was sold at market value.
Just use original filters and reasonable quality synthetic oils like total, no need to use super fancy oils like amsoil or liquimoly, just a waste of cash on local cars.
