Everyone here criticising the 1.2l engine. Why does no one consider, it is being offered with a cvt, which greatly helps keep the car in power band. Unlike the old Gli with its 4 speed auto, and was the highest seller because it had okayish power. I am sure City would be better than gli and will do perfectly fine for most drives.
In my opinion it would be the best selling trim for Honda. There is a huge group, outside of the pakwheels "saith" community, and to them the taxes and prices matter. And if Honda doesn't go all greedy, I believe the 1.2 should easily undercut the 1.5basic by 200k and on top of that the additional taxation at registration and token payment. Seeing the 5th gen 1.3 sales and no Japanese competition in 1.3,I think Atlas made a good decision bringing the 1.2.

If only Atlas can do something about their crappy seats and suspension

Don't forget the 1000cc CVT Vitz and its body size.

The AT atleast helps a good pickup in low gears. CVT with such a big body would struggle. 1.2L should be offered in manual only.

With Yaris 1.3 and 1.5 and Current 5th gen City 1.3 and 1.5L both above the 1.3 tax bracket and also Alsivn above the 1.3L tax bracket

Only Saga and this 1.2L City would remain under the 1.3L tax bracket

The total expense for being over and under 1.3L category is just rs 50,000, which no one wants to save over the power and fun to drive

CVT is a good transmission in theory, but in reality its not near the godsend that many people think it is. Yes its better than old tech autos like super-ect and prosmatec, but still the fuel economy and acceleration is below manuals. Fact of the matter is city 1.3 manual already felt slightly underpowered, so cvt is not going to help. Please do not bring gli auto as a valid discussion point as the only reason it sold a lot was being the cheapest corolla with an auto trans. It is one of the most underpowered cars I've ever been in and in acceleration seems more comparable to mehrans. That car just screams a lot while not going anywhere. Its fuel economy is terrible as well. We should compare to the current competitors of the city, and amongst the new competition, 1.2 is gonna be underpowered.

Economy dynamics change with time. Agreed, Atlas launched the Civic pretty quickly and has been upgrading City since 1999 regularly, but things have not been feasible recently. No manufacturer would want to willingly set their wrong foot forward. Look at Indus, still selling like hot-cakes and yet, Corolla upgrade is delayed.

More cabin space for 1.2L, quite hilarious. Would they have moved the firewall forward for the 1.2L car and not the 1.5L? Highly unlikely. That would also mean that the 1.5L Aspire models are top of the line despite having smaller cabin room. Just marketing lingo to answer people's questions when they turn up at showrooms.

I remember going to see the Cultus when it replaced the Khyber. The guy told us, this car doesn't hit speed-breakers as much as Khyber. We all know how that turned out.
