tested mobilink 3g after a long time, giving much better speed indoors with 15 asu as compared to slow 3g speed of zong
streaming music and videos without any hiccup, so i guess i dont need to test zong anymore who cant give full coverage and i think its the only network with poor signal coverage here, all others are much better than zong in this area

I read the earlier findings. Zong is not for your area. It catches the signal from far away too, nothing much to worry. There is a way to lock signal too, but that's only good if there is no other choice left. You have other networks working good, so its better to use them.

You can also get help from coverage map that is provided on mobile networks website.

Portable Mobile Hotspot is an easier alternative to Wingle, with same functionality. USB tethering is also good.

even though mobilink towers r near but it catches signal from a far away tower even for gsm too, dont know y
zong 4g tower is near but it catches signals from a very far off 3g tower which is again really strange, 4g speed was fine and browsing as well, btw how to lock it to a specific tower n esp how can i select LTE only, this rom isnt offering LTE only option

coverage map is showing my area fully covered for 3g n 4g both n its like if its on a border end, coverage ends after 2km ahead according to the map

As far as I know, there's no way to force a connection to a specific tower/mast.

Secondly, if you force your device to LTE only, you wont be able to make/receive calls and send texts. Texts can only be received.
Calls and texts are sent over 3G, so if the phone is LTE only, only receiving tests and cellular data will work properly.

That is complicated stuff (service mode, hidden menus or even root), better not to do that. It will fix one issue, but will cause few more connectivity issues.

i have never found any free wifi spots not even with that app

It will not help much in finding free WiFi hotspots.

It should be always set Auto. Just posting it on forum so that others can correct the settings.

Manual controls are more precise (for low coverage areas or carrier based phones), if you know what you are doing. But for most people having no signal issues, auto is best.

You can also manually set/register network operators (zong or whatever), so that it looks for that specified network signals only. But you will need to set it again if you use another network sim.

There is even a setting (in service mode), in which you can lock the phone to only look for LTE B3 (1800) for 4G and WCDMA 2100 for 3G.

They also help a lot in low coverage, but they are only set when really necessary.

Phone needs to be rooted, download the Phone Info app, force open the Service Mode Menu.
You can use *#0011# but *#2263# works just as well. Both allow you to choose what band to lock on to as mentioned by s15.

But you don't need to change anything unnecessarily.

If someone locks it for Pakistani networks only, then it will need to be set back to the default settings if one travels to another country, otherwise it will cause serious connectivity issues and inconvenience abroad.

"Its only for those having serious signal connectivity issues or having similar issues on carrier based phones".

To optimise it for Pakistani networks,
Lock the bands preference of the following to,

GSM: 900 & 1800
WCDMA: 2100
LTE: B3 (1800)

And then "Apply band configuration".

What Android version @s15

For me, 2263 and 0011 only worked when I was rooted and if I launched them through the Phone Info app.
Haven't tested on my S6, but on S4, S5 and my Note Edge. Only worked when rooted.

It depends on phone and country software installed in it.

In no connectivity situation,
If its carrier based, then its software is optimised for their own specific network, so it will first search for their own network bands in priority and then look for other bands. This is why sometimes carrier phones (like American) have some signal issues.

If its an international model, it will first look for network bands based on the country software is installed in it. If its Korean country software, it will first look for Korean network bands in priority and then other bands.

So locking the band preferences to optimise it for a specific country helps to solve many issues related to above signal issues. But most people don't need to worry about it or do any such thing, unless required.

That network operator manual selection option is to set most suitable network operator manually and also to find out that which other networks have coverage in that area.

Its 5.1.1 unrooted.

For older versions, there is another way for unrooted phones.

Look at the "Configuring Smartphone Binaries for LTE Activation" section and download the PDF guide from the following link and explore those menus. IIRC, similar menu is there too.
