5w30 vs 0w20 altis grande

Dear pakwheelers, this has been a never ending debate as i have seen a couple of threads here in which some of the senior pakwheelers have difference of opinions. Today i want to conclude something out of it with regards to the topic i have chosen.
For a toyota altis grande 19'
The owner manual suggests 5w30
I recently poured 0w20( fully synthetic caltex havoline) on 18k kms after purchasing it. Previous oil history not known but at the time of purchase, its fuel average was 10kmpL.
On 0w20, no issues at all regarding engine performance, no rattling noise or anything else. Average raised to 12kmpL with AC. No oil reduction noticed so far after 4700kms done on this oil and i am about to change it on 5000kms now.
Therefore need suggestions whether to continue with the same grade or to switch to 5w30 !

It is fine if no oil reduction. But to be on the safer side, u should use 5w20 or 5w30

5w20 is no where to be seen. Only 0w20 & 5w30 are shortlisted upon my research from different threads here and upon researching on the net.

I suggest you always follow the recommendations mentioned in the Owner's Manual (that is, 5w30).
These recommendations are basically according to the environment of Pakistan which is different than the Corolla variants available abroad.
If you look at the Owner's manual of International variants of Corolla, the recommendation there is 0w20, but that is according to the temperature conditions of that region.

The rest is your choice.

People will come to you with "hot climate" crap theory, dont listen to them. Each engine is designed around a certain oil viscosity which is recommended in the owner`s manual so you should follow that. However if 0w20 is working fine for you then keep using since it wont harm your engine at all. Majority of engine damage occurs at dry startup in the morning time and 0w20 is the perfect choice to counter that

every ICE reduces oil but it should be in normal limits. Which are usually stated in the owners manual. Oil reduction doesnt mean that any damage was done to the engine

Ever read about thermodynamics and heat transfer? Its actually a thing instead of hot climate.
If that's wasn't a case then mclaren F1 won't have gold for heat transfer in the engine and bugatti wouldn't have introduced a naked engine bay even with 11 radiators.

Yes I know that already..
Not like 800ml reduction right after a trip of 1200kms in june. I drove at 160km/h and engine was feeling crappy rough. Oil was 5w30 total.

yes i know that. And i guess you misunderstood my point. Anyway, engine operating temperatures are always higher then ambient ones and thinner oil circulates better anyway

use better quality oil i guess, maybe that much reduction wouldnt occur on amsoil or any other better reputed brand oil

Those temperature increases in 50 degrees ambient temeratures and high rpms.

That's one filthy oil man.. i was having sheer dual vvti grinding with amsoil 5w30. I wish I could send sound recordings here.
Using mobil 1 0w40 now, and its working fine.

yes but there is a limit to that as well, beyond which high temperature indicator will light up. chances of that happening are greater with a thicker oil due to increased friction (viscosity)

Nopes. Never happened to me.
I used mobil 1 5w50 for like 30000kms.
Acceleration was the same and even fuel economy was around 17km/l on 120 cruise.
People starts bashing here over no reason. I have used multiple different oils in my 2016 1.8 cvti driven 124000kms.
I can say it easily that fuel economy and acceleration remains almost the same on 5w30 amsoil/total and 5w50 mobil 1.

That's where you are wrong.
Thick oil will not kill engine. Never Ever! Fake oil will.
My 2010 gli ran on 20w50 all its life. I sold it at 220000kms odo, and now its driven by friend upto 470000kms without any engine overhaul or heatups bla bla.

I dont say it, physics says it that chances are high for obvious reasons. And using that high viscosity in vvt engines, even old 2nz, is not recommended. Now i cant believe that engine was working perfectly fine on that thick of an oil. Perhaps you chose to ignore the petty problems that were associated with it

To my knowledge and as far as i have noticed during the current oil i am using, i haven't encountered any oil reduction issues so far. After 4700kms its still as leveled up as it was during the initial days.
