Sir i have the manual thermostat in my ride. the metal knob one that u installed. it works fine in my car. i calibrated it upon observation for comfortable tripping once the cabin is cool. it usually trips more frequently once the car is running (its also dependant upon the refriegerant quantity in the system) and less frequently when the car is idle.

Logically tripping every 20 sec doesnt make sense. tripping should be dependant upon the temperature level in the cabin. calibrate it accordingly. if the cabin gets cool than it should trip. if u set the temperature to 16 it might not trip at all.

assuming that the compressor will go bust if it doesnt trip is wrong. these r denso rotary compressors. they dont go bust easy so dont worry.

use thermostat as it should work. its a tripping device based upon cabin temperature feedback not time.

thermostat make compressor trip only when it reach desired temp inside cabin and its impossible on initital run...

later it can maintain and trip.. 20sec rule is not fixed but depends who fast caabin is chilled

no sir i am in isb. like rajaatta sb. apparently we have better technicians in ISB. if you were here i would have gotten this AC fixed in a day or 2. thats all the time it deserves to be fixed and work flawlessly.

Apparently the time and effort that you have put in to fix this ride is not suitable for such a work horse.

After a lot of research and wasting 7 kgs of precious r12 I came to a conclusion that only expansion valves with temp sensing bulbs work better with r12 rather then Block Valve setup. So right now the expansion valve is not of temp sensing it's a block valve that you had installed I would recommend to find the actual evaporator of hdj80 with expansion valve setup and you would love the results. Same happens to me in my old cressida I changed its cooling coil and changed its compressor every thing works well with r12 once again.

dear brother...its an AC...and as far as i know....Domestic Air conditioning ( home or automobile) have been working on same principle for last 30-40 years or so...

as i mentioned earlier....the compressor can run continuously for 6-7 hours without any damage...personally tried and tested...if maintained properly, it really hard to kill a denso compressor specially the piston type!!

i dont know how and from where u got this information that compressor have to trip every 10 sec or so...in fact too much tripping specially 10 sec interval tripping will kill the compressor!!

now, have you tried insulating the Expansion Valve with cork tape as suggested by Xulfiqar?

if not then, you should do it first and then come here with results...

and as far as vapor/white layer on the ac piping is considered...normally it shows Low refrigerant or bad clogged expansion valve...no way its a parameter to show AC performance...

the only parameter which shows AC performance is how dense fog is formed on ur sunglasses or fone screen once u get out of ur car during sunny summer day!!!

Bhai log.
Can an orifice tube ,be used in tintin sb system in place of expansion valve he is using.by doing some juggar.
As r12 is used with Harrison v5 system ,and its cooling is outclass.

No ufortunatly the compressor has variable speeds with engine rpm variation. So it's not a fixed rotation type

O tube is infact inferior to expansion valve, but the unit General Motors install in almost any car is more like a deep freezer, regardless being R12 or 134a, They will equally give you pneumonia in July in Pakistan. - The entire system is overbuilt.

The factory evaporator in 80 series has the H block expansion valve, - the R12 expansion valve part number is different and it has been discontinued a long time ago as R12 has been out of commission since the mid 1990s.

And I had already pointed out that the system is not vacuumed properly and neither is it flushed properly - Just saying

"this is all we can do in Pakistan"

doesnt magically fix a failing system - Actually fixing the system fixes it.

aap kay stamina ko Salam hai.
I did a little light reading and also found that the expansion valve needs to be changed, there is no other way, and the reason for it getting blocked is as xulfiqar mentioned, not achieving the required pressure there being moisture left in the system.

Thinking to change the condenser and flush the system and shift to R134a.

Wise choice my boy, wise choice.

But yes, once its blocked, it pretty much stays blocked

This is not fault of anything, but simply a worn out discharge hose, its very normal and happens to every old car. That is why its a replacement item whenever its felt to have gone a bit soft.

I fail to understand - why you cannot find any sensible technician who knows their job.
