So my LC80 is in workshop for few days, getting some work done.
The transmission was loosing oil. Few mechanics said that it needs all seals of transmission / 4x4 / drive shats rebuilt as the oil is coming from the joints. Decided to go for it. Real fault was discovered later that there was a crack in the housing which was previously covered with Epoxy
Replacement housing was not timely found. Decided to repair the crack. Hopefully this will work otherwise will look for a housing in the scrap market. But for the time being, it seem to work. Didn't wanted to get a new transmssion (its a manual) as there was no problem in the gears itself.
Power steering was making noise and leaking some fuid (very little). Replaced PS pump with a kabuli one and all flexible pipes leading in and out. Replacement pump is also making noise
.... but no leaking so thats good right
Turbo was not whistling as proudly as it used to 4 months back. Oil started to leak from somewhere under it, although the performance was not that bad. So mechanic after removing turbo said that the trubo is cracked and need replacement or a new kit. Difference of price between new kit and Turbo was not phenominal so went with new trubo of some Asian desent. People say its Japani but I am not sure. Its installed now and going loud and proud and performance improved considerably.
All front bushings have been changed with new so called Janpani bushing and new set of Tie Rods. Axle greasing done (Which Grease you may ask... my answer is I don't have a clue). New bearings installed as well but only in front wheels.
I changing front Shocks (which had gone hard by the way) with Kabuli Old Man EMU shocks. Not happy with the results for what little test drive i did, feels bit stiffer, but will address this issue later when the car gets back.
Front main seal of engine was giving some leak which is now fixed.
Front rotors / Disks were found to be thin and not suitable for polishing so got these replaced with new ones. Caliper seals and kits were also replaced.
Now the engine head is being opened to look at Rings and Pistons. Plan to put new rings as mechanics are telling that this is necessary to keep oil from travelling up to turbo (I am no expert, but this is what I heard).
I have this car for over 4 months now, loved at every moment of its drive, and used 5w40 Fully synthetic in it. Now the mechanic is saying that he will pour 20w50 in it, which I am not sure of but will try at least to grab this grade of oil from a good brand, at least.
Will post detail outcome soon when I finally get my car back. Most of the work happens behind my back and this causes worry at times but I dn't have means to monitor each and every work and I am committing the greater sin of trusting the mechanics here (but I do trust this guy). Need your prayers good brothers. Detail report coming soon.
