8th Gen Civic Install

finally managed to complete the install, ( at least for now )

setup
front kenwood s702p, temporarily was using polk audio db650 ( will post my review of kenwoods compared to polk audio after the pics below )
rear, original, turned off
headunit, stock, kenwood mp4090
sub, Polk audio MOMO 10inch in a 0.7cuf sealed enclosure
amp, kicker zx650.4, powering fronts, and bridged subwoofer
wiring, 0/1 gauge power/ground, 16gauge ( woofer cable in local installers language) for the fronts.

i was originally gonna post it as DIY, but due to low interest in DIYs, im just gonna post pics of the process with little detail.

wire goes thru the gourmet behind passenger side glove compartment, into the front left fender, and comes out through the plastic opening next to the battery in engine bay
passing thru thick wire through the fender was a b*tch,

removing the trims below passenger side door yields enough space for 0/1 gauge wire to pass thru, and comes out behind rear seat lower cushion.

passenger side trims ( front and rear ) are attached by three plastic holders, no screws, just use a flat head screw driver to remove then

to remove the rear seat lower piece, u need to remove the bolt hidden behind right side seat belt hooks, u will need a 10mm hex tool

after removing the bolt, pull plastic clips below the left right seat, as shown in pics, and pull the seat up

i used the rear seat belt bolt as ground point
many suggest this as a ghetto way, but i prefer this over finding a suitable area on chasis, scratching away the paint, fitting the wires, then repainting with anti corrosion paint.

seat belt bolts work because they are bolted to chasis, and screws are not painted. hence a clean ground.

Amp is placed behind spare tyre, below the trunk floor, so far no overheating issues, no trips, i will mount the amp behind the rear seat if heating issues arise, so far, ive been using it this way for about 2 weeks now, no issues.

Preouts and speaker wires were routed as far away from power wires as possible == driver side
thrs not much space below driver side trims, i believe trunk and fuel lid wires have taken most of the space, i could be wrong thou.
hence the wires were half routed below driver side carpet and half below center console, where they meet the head unit and crossovers.

to route the wire into the door
u need to take off the gourmet, remove the connector grips in thr, then use a pilot wire to guide the speaker wire through,
dont try passing the speaker wire without removing the connectors, i tried and wasted a day.

remove the gourmets, pass the wires, fit them back, simple.

remove the door hand rest as per honda manual pictures given below
then gently pull the complete panel away from the door. start from bottom, once all the plastic holders are unhooked, lift the panel up to free it from the window edge.

remove the original speaker, and mount the new speaker, mounting the new speaker requires some improvisation depending on the mounting accessories u have. what ever u do, make sure its properly secure.

then fix the door panel back.

tweeters were mounted on the dash board. not in the factory location near front screen. front wind screen position was to prominent to localize, and had bad imaging thou larger/deeper soundstage. i preferred the on dash position with cross firing angle with better imaging.

wiring the tweeter was easy, simple pull the grill below, and there is a cavity which opens behind glove compartment, simply drop the wire down, and connect to the crossover.

i mounted the crossovers at passenger side, many ppl place them below seats, but i prefer mounting them in a clean place. some ppl also place them in the doors itself. i wudnt, makes harder to make changes, and exposes them to dirt and moisture.

and who told you that nobody gives a damn about DIY's here ? I DO and know more than a cople of ppl who wud too..

waisay do u really think its a good comparison to be comparing Kenwood's to Polk Db's ? i mean NOT IN THE SAME LEAGUE AT ALL....

Imo the Db's are a Bit too Harsh... and the kenwood tweets crack badly at high volumes.. their Mids are awesome... There were a lot of other options for you to get besides Kenwood's u know ... so i'd say let the signature stay that way haha
