...and finally we meet!
We reached Chitral and the Hilux was there to pick us up! Came out of the airport and I saw it (Imagine playing "Tum ney mujhay deikha - Muhammad Rafi" in the background, and To be honest I was not really pleased to meet the old boy at first sight, the paint job was not that fine, it had broken plastics on the dash, the interior need a fair amount of detailing and what not, but before I reached a conclusion, I immediately told myself to give it a right of a fair trial.
We put our bags into the truck and the owner was kind enough to give me the keys to drive it to the Chitral Scouts Mess. I started driving it, and after going along for like 2-3 Kilometers, I knew it that the Old Boy is good at heart (Engine, Transmission and Suspension). It further endorsed the proverb I had been reading all my life "never judge a book by its cover"
We reached the Chitral Scouts mess, about a 15 minutes ride from the airport, and the mess was beautiful. Indeed a refreshing sight to see after almost whole night of travelling. The mess is located on the hill top and you can see the mesmerising sight of the mighty Tirch Mir (Tallest Mountain of the Hindukush range).
We asked the current owner that let us refreshen for some time and we can catch up again in 2 hrs time. The existing owner back then had arranged a lavish lunch for us. So after about 2 hrs time Ali (Younger Brother of the owner) came to pick us up again and we went to their place for formalities like making the payment, sale deed signatures, vehicle handing over etc. While, all those formalities were business as routine, what I must mention is the unforgettable hospitality the entire family bestowed upon us. We were treated with respect to the highest order, served with the most lavish and delicious home made food and above all awesome friendship of a life time (we are still in touch on a regular basis).
After spending some good 2-3 hrs at their home (which I would like to call a palace), we took the vehicle in our possession --- we now officially owned it and we came back to our mess room.
... of course we needed to catch up with some sleep; after all we now owned our first SUV ever!
P/S> I dont want to make it yet another workshop like mechanical sounding thread, please bear with me even if you find story telling as least of my strengths. Your patience and co-operation is highly appreciated.
