These things come with instructions and have a particular usage, till this day, there are so many casualties in this country because people don't know how abs works, how traction control works, how air bags work... the list goes on.
Since you appear to be sensible, the jdms require a certain clean fuel, which upon not receiving, these cars have a threshold to bear and after ask for many different sort "maintenance" which pkdms don't require. The main reason being, that our fuel is not compatible with euro standards available abroad, hence pkdm cars are more suitable here.
I have had a vast huge of endless jdms, still have 3 under my use, but from what i have seen, heard and experienced, unless you know your cars, buying a jdm is bad idea. Even these so called flawless ones that come with a 4.5 auction grade, they require care a knowledgeable technician or owner, because they otherwise end up with ATF instead of CVT oil, they end up with incorrect models of plugs, resulting in knocking, they end up mishandled maintenance, and bam, end of story.
So yes, JDMs are better, if there is a know how of usage, else, its always better to buy a local car, which won't have half as many problems as these. As far as safety is concerned, yes, its slightly compromised, but then again, if you play by the rules, chances of getting in a major accident are slightly less.
