After Service is spraying engine oil Underneath the car?

Dear Experts,

When ever i service my car at station they spray old engine oil underneath the car to protect it from rust? but my question is it the right way to protect it?

Or

Can we use any other specific oil which does not effect rubber parts and also protect it from rust?

I am sure lot of people need exact information on that subject, so expert need your valuable comments?

i dont think so it should be done as when the tyres rotate! I mean when car is on the road dirt sticks on the inner side of the fender causing it too hard to wash may be it rusts too

Yep understand the concept, so what should be the correct method? or any special product available in the market?

i used to do that but due to this my car got many rubber problems like axels bushes and other stuff esp oil seals under gearbox were effected
bro my uncle had been posted in khi and he had an alto which he took with him to khi from Peshawar and got it undercoated with rust proof paint somewhere in khi he said its paint which is underneath Launches(ships) to protect it from rust i suggest check those guys now after spending 4 years in khi i seen the car no rust at all.

as from my experience rubber parts were effected due to dust caught by oil underneath and problems started

Is anti-rust paint really required, i thought the paint on car itself will protect it.
We never use oil on any of our cars due to the mentioned reasons and faced no issues on any car.

the cars these guys are talking about are probably older ones which were made from lower quality non-rust-proof materials....

Yes i am talking about old cars but dont know either it has rust proof or not, in case not rust proof so if we do undercoating for rust and do timely service than it can product the car? am i right

theoretically it shud.....but as others have also pointed out, it may have some harmful effects as well.....so u have to be careful not to completely bath ur car in diesel/oil......
and btw oil is more preferable than diesel i think since oil doesnt catch fire.....and diesel might just start burning due to engine heat and high temp of summers these days.....

hmm - in the last 50 to 60 odd years cars have been manufactured with a wax based coating on the undercarriage. I wonder where these idiots got the idea from to spray oil underneath the car and destroy every little rubber bushing and eat away the coating till the metal starts to rust.

DO NOT APPLY ANY SORT OF PETROLEUM PRODUCT to the undersides of the car - all it does is eat bushings and destroy the protective coating, use a powerwasher and leave it to air dry. The nincompoops at the service stations do not care about your car - what they care is MONEY

+1, To make it even simple try putting some oil on the body of ur car dont clean that area for some days see the dirt it gathers, Now imagine what kind of condition would be happening under the car that washed after a month or two

I used to get the underside of my car sprayed with diesel. I never understood how it could help keep the car clean when it sticks to the underside and catches all the dust. Then my car's rubber seals starting going. And since then, I have NEVER EVER allowed any car washer to put any kind of lube on my car's underbody.

And since then, NOTHING has ever happened to my car. Do not listen to the car washers at wash stations. Diesel, oil or other petroleum products DO NOT keep your car from rusting. On the contrary they create problems.

Get diesel sprayed once in a month, and then get it rinsed off by water afterwards. Besides it`ll all be dried up and evaporated by the time the guy dries/waxes your car.

My suspension used to make a weird noise, after getting is sprayed with diesel it was completely gone.

that makes absolute sense that spraying any kind of oil or diesel will make your rubbers worn out , but i have heard many people saying oh those voice that coming out before spraying under carriage will go after that and i will tell them wait for few days they will come back as they will go temporarily in any sense spraying under carriage is a terrible idea , now one question that i would like to ask to my experts here that what effects we will face if underneath the car is completely dry , what i observed that cars that is not sprayed underneath they will make noises , specially shocks will go dry after few months or so , taking my own example when i observed my car from the driver side back , if i push my car from backside towards ground it will make a chu chu noise same when i sit down on my seat from driver side and it feels like upper area from tyres to body is making chu chu voice and when i discussed it with my mechanic he said its because of lack of oiling so i dont know what to do in that case keeping the original poster question that i dont spray any thing underneath and because of that those noises start coming , i am sure our experts here comments on that aswell thanks .

some bushing has dried out because of earlier generous oiling of the "SERVICE STATION"

replace parts and proceed, btw squeaking of bushes is also caused by incorrect tightening of bushes, the wheel has to be in neutral and road level position when every bushing bolt is tightened - that way the bushes remain in resting position and only flex when called for.

If they were tightened with the wheel hanging they will be flexed all the time, wearing them out or tearing and then causing squeaks.

ever wondered why the manufacturer tells to clean off all petroleum product spray immediately if spilled - specially on european diesel cars - they recommend to completely and thoroughly wash off all spilled diesel/oil residue from the rubber parts and bodywork.
