The fun part is that it's mostly mechanical, the transmission is the 722.4 Hydraulic one. Engine is mostly mechanical aswell.

Swap OM602.962 to a W124 300TE? Both cars will be standing next to each other on the lift

Per mechanics at job : Swap engine, wiring, ignition lock, clean the petrol fuel tank, empty the fuel lines with pressurized air and swap the speedometers. Ofc some other things will be done as well.

My queries ;

Does the tranny have to be swapped aswell?
Are the engine mounts the same?

And : Is it worth it :P?

the transmission bolted to the 602 is a 722.4 - but a very unique version of it. It has an additional plate in the K2 clutch to cope with the turbodiesel's torque. Swap it over and make sure the diffy is also compatible. If the ratio is not close then use the diesel diffy too.

The engine mountings are similar and so are the transmission mounts. I would also advise to swap the front springs as they are a bit stronger on the diesel models.

The fuel tank needs to be swapped out for the diesel one or atleast swap the fuel strainer in the tank, the petrol one is a very fine mesh, Using that in the diesel one will make it clog very quick. The fuel lines need to be elongated from the floor to the fuel tank strainer (use good diesel rated fuel hose there and some clamps)

change the exhaust too, the diesel exhaust is different. - It just bolts on.

The OM602 is so aala - that you can start it and then remove the battery and even cut off the alternator wiring - it wont matter, it will remain running. - meaning no bijli required.

Its shut off by applying vacuum to the injection pump stop lever.

Will start disassembling the W124 E250 on the weekend, remove everything and then send the car to the junkyard. Get $440 for the frame

I am going to Poland in end of August, might bring the parts with me ( thank lord for the huge boot in the W124 Wagons ) and probably pay the Polski mechanics some bucks for swapping out everything.

I might be able to do it myself with the help of 2 mechanics at work, but I need to see how difficult the wiring might be.

Quick question : Was playing around with the sunroof, and now it's stuck! It's closed, I can hear some motor whirring. I am thinking it's only the cable which has jumped / is stuck. Does the roof-lining have to come off to access the cable?

The i am facing was lack of acceleration with ac ...
I have done throttle body service plus plugs are in good shape ...
Change air filter ...
After all that 30 % improvement ...!
But still i have to turn off ac on signals etc ...!

the sunroof has many small parts but for checking you can test the geartrain at the motor, the motor is behind the carpeting in the boot on the left side, it has one cable that goes to the sunroof plate to push/pull it - the stupid thing are the little felt feet that slide and make the roof work in the rails.

You can undo the roof cable from the plate from inside the car without removing all of the finishing fabrics and then use the gear train on the motor to pull it out. There is a way to manually work the geartrain with a tool. Its self explanatory once you look into it.

Yes mechanic ny car ko scanner b lagaya tha and everything is working fine according to him !

did he actually open the valve cover to check tappet clearance? test engine compression etc?? - scanner tool cannot test those items.

Xulfiqar Sir I have asked you some questions regarding Cuore's carburetor some days ago but you didn't answer.Please answer my this question,it is important.
My 2000 model manual Cuore has new radiator(local made),new pipes,AC system working fine but wiring is very bad.i wanted mechanic to install Tstat valve in it & make fan auto but he refuses saying engine is old & weak so better keep it direct or if you want autofan I can do it for you on your responsibility & risk.He also says there is some kit fitted on AC evaporator box which is necessary for autofan & that kit is missing in my car.He also says autofan can blow up radiator or gasket can leak too.
Last week I got qabli carb & ignition coil & distributor in my car & wanted to activate autochoke system,when mechanic fitted all parts he said he has done autofan system ON but according to my AC electrician autofan should turn fan instantly ON whenever AC is turned ON which don't happen in autofan system activated by mechanic.In the autofan system activated by mechanic fan only turns ON after engine reaches a certain temperature but I don't know how is it possible without a Tstat valve & at what temperature autofan works in absence of Tstat valve.

you seem quite confused and your car seems to be in extremely poor condition.

anyway - operating the engine cold means the engine will die very quickly - expect only about 20,000 kms before you need to rebuild it. A proper operating temperature engine will last for decades. So always make sure you are following good practices in repair. If your repair is so poor that it cannot survive normal operating temperature then its not a repair in my books, its a failure of repair.

anyway - your mechanic has probably bypassed the entire A/C system diode setup that runs the cooling fan, find any sensible electrician and ask him to trace the broken/cut wiring and make the original system work.

Its nothing more than a diode which prevents the compressor to start when the cooling fan kicks in itself from the engine thermoswitch. Its wired such that as soon as you start the A/C the cooling fan is also started.

The fan will work automatically without the thermostat valve at its correct 98C temperature, but without the valve it will take an extremely long time to reach that temperature and also overcool on a long run (very bad). Install the thermostat valve in the engine.

You guessed right Sir I am quite confused & car is in extremely poor condition.What increased my confusion is that I read info here on forum & discussions, replies by members but when I wanted to get that work done by mechanics they are against it.eg many posts here on PW about Tstat & autofan system importance for car engines but 99.9% of mechanics are against it citing reasons old engine,weak engine,bad wiring etc.I think that is why most people with old cars who are illiterate & don't read PW are happy with direct fans & not confused & not bothered about auto or direct fan & thermo valve

the thermostat valve and thermoswitch for the fan are two separate parts. The valve is mechanical and opens to allow coolant to flow from the radiator into the engine, the thermoswitch is an electric switch that works the cooling fan when it reaches its working temperature.

The thermoswitch temperature is always higher than the thermostat valve temperature.
