I didn't intend to error out some timing issue by that. I only need to find whether marks on timing cover and crank shaft pulley and on flywheel and their certain matching has anything to do with correct timing?

Ummmm..

The timing marks are provided so you can set correct mechanical timing, so the pistons and valves work in correct "timing"

No, I don't assume timing as something else except in addition to timing of spark in the cylinder. Now as you've come to the point please tell if the timing cover mark and crank shaft pulley mark shall be exactly matching when the flywheel mark is at TDC and camshaft pulley marks will also be matching?

spark timing is different than mechanical timing.

as the crank spins at twice the rpm of cam, you will see the crank mark once line up at compression TDC1 and once at exhaust TDC1

on nearly all japanese engines the timing marks are on compression TDC1.

TDC1 = top dead center for cylinder 1

Salam Xulfiqar Bhai. I have a Corolla 2013, was bought brand new and have been using it since then. It is 83,000kms driven by now and I try to keep it well maintained by replacing fluids and filters on time. I am facing two issues, firstly the car is not as responsive as it used to be, could it be because of clogged catalytic converter because I never got it checked. If so what is the solution? If cleaning then which method is recommended. Secondly, if the AC is turned on the rpm goes down, the engine vibrates and rpm comes back to normal, this happens every time the car is idle or when the clutch is pressed to change gears and doesn't happen when AC is not being used. Also I haven't changed the fuel filter yet, do you recommend changing it at 83k. Will appreciate your opinion in this regard.

You forgot to mention the variant, also those cars don't usually have issues with cat convertors. What oil do you use? Did the responsiveness suddenly decrease or after some work?

do u use the car for short trips only or it sees highway or motorway as well?

Its a manual Gli 1.3. No work done recently, and I believe it has reduced with time not suddenly. And the oil I am using is Shell 5W-30

Used to be driven on highways sometimes until 40,000 kms. Being used in city (Karachi) after that.

what is the operating temperature range for a 1HDFT engine ?

in the fsm t-stat opening temperature is 76°C
and the full opening temperature is 90°C

What I'm saying is that, I'm asking for a threshold above which the engine is considered to be overheating?

Zuliqar sir I've a crown 1992
Been sitting in gerage for more then 2 years for now.
Its engine has been buit once or maybe twice.
Has a 2LTE 2.4 97hp/220nm.... its a snail, plus its the 3rd or 4th ecu. I dont know how but the ecu keeps breaking down over and over. What can be the possible reason?
What do you suggest, if i have to swap the engine, what are the Economic and fuel efficient options I've ?
The car needs tyres, suspension work too so i want to keep the expense minimal.

Aren't they supposed to stay at 90-95°C max ?

I don't know if rough idling is the correct term to describe it. The car rpm goes down which makes the car vibrate and then it comes back to normal. It keeps happening when the car is idle or when clutch is pressed to shift gears. And this happens only when AC is in use.
