My car uses a yzza6 filter that is similar to pkdm altis.

The guard oil and oil filters to be avoided at all cost, the money saved can not buy human safety and health of car.

With your expirence I now have 3 stories of guard brand worst quality. It can even cause engine failure due to fatigue on big end bearings and what not.

So avoid this at all costs.

You use a 5w50 oil in a 2sz?

2sz use can filters. We are discussing 1krfe which uses a filter cup in which you load the media and Oring.

The wrong filter media height or poor construction can cause the filter cup bypass valve to get stuck in bypass or even not function at all.

Sir height was almost same visually when the guard one was dismantled.

Other 2 stories are of engine failures, this oil disintegrates yielding failures of high friction surface, one at connecting rod bearing and other at cam lobes excessive wear.
This third one is you having a narrow escape.

The height isnt the only determination, If that filter deforms under load when wet the bypass wont work or will be stuck open.

Its a common issue with aftermarket filters for such types, e.g. the kia, mazda, GM engines using this type of filter usually suffer failure due to badly made media or using aftermarket filter cups.

Some people think that all toyota cups are the same except for the material (e.g. toyota corolla is plastic vs markX aluminium) - they are not, the center tube has a different rated spring and also height. - Its paramount to use the original replacement part from the dealership/showroom parts counter only.

Do OEM Hyundai and Kia filters have this issue as well. Reason why I am asking is I saw a Elantra on dealership with busted engine. Reason diagnosed was oil filter. Owner had the filter changed from the dealership.

The hyundai engine failures are not due to the oil filter but due to the garbage quality machining and QA done at the Hyundai/Kia engine factories.

Its a well known global problem but sheeple only look at “shape of car” and “feechurr” then immediately hand over their wallets in Pk.

Yes i do use 5w-50 in 2SZ FE because with all other oils there was too much knocking issue.

Knocking? As in pinging or metallic rattle? Or just engine sound?

2szfe sounds like a tin can of bolts even when new, 1kr is even worse

Using PSO 10W30 in recently swapped 2sz assembly, at cold engine it is little noisy but after gaining optimal temperature its smooth and quiet.

well mine is quite sound less at idle however while accelerating its a kind of knocking sound cant differentiate it if its a mettalic rattle.

however these days oil reduction has increased now (more than 100 ml/1000 km). approx 400-500 ml/1000 km driven and i am experiencing reduced pickup too. however car is now driven more than 250 k kms even though on the meter its around 125k kms (dealers usually reverse the meter before selling the car locally).

but gives very smooth ride and approx 13-13.5 kmpl in city driving average so just topping up the reduced oil regularly and using it without any issues AL HAMD U LILLAH.

however seems that if i intend to continue keeping the car than it might need an engine overhaul soon.

will switch to 5w-30 fully synthetic after engine over haul in that case.

You using the super thick oil is actually killing the engine at a faster than normal rate. And 250k is not too much, these engines have a designed service life of 500k before requiring inspection or work.

Usual work only being valve seal replacement. Sometimes that too is alleviated if the owner was good with maintaining the cooling system.

Now coming to noise, if you have been duped into the notion of “sunn injann” from oldschool dumb ustaads, then you basically are asking a fish to climb a tree. These are very lightweight, light casting aluminium engines with twin cams in the head, they are quite noisy by design.

If you want a very quiet engine then you best buy a vehicle with a full cast iron engine and OHV or side valve design.

I was getting this DTC with ECL lit after I switched to the non oem air filter on my 1krfe. Yesterday I replaced the airfilter too to an oem one and Alhumdolellah the car is super smooth now. I was just wondering how the guard filters are working good for other fellows without any issues or they just ignore the unusual engine noises and ecl. Lets hope and pray the ecl does not return or I will need to clean the MAP which is behind the TB, not easy to reach.

i understand that. i got the car in 2014 Dec (so its been 8 years now), its actually 2007 model and imported to pakistan in 2012. it was being maintained by toyota on 20w-50 by 3S dealership.

i started off with pouring in 5w-20 however there was significant power drop and too much knocking and rough idle. i shifted to 10w-40 than and eventually settled for toyota taglon 5w-50. car became smoother and almost no knocking. earlier on 5w-20 it would make a knocking noise even going in straight line on 1-2RPM with almost no load on the engine.

i have replaced its cvt oil and engine oil and coolant (all OEM spec preferably toyota own boxes) on time always AL HAMD U LILLAH. no issues. car works fine and continues to give 13 KMPL in city with continues AC/heater use.

there are no issues. however recently the oil reduction rate has increased alot.

just to mention sticker inside the bonnet suggests 0w-20 engine oil. however until recently we havent had 0w-20 easily available in market.

what do u suggest should i try shifting from 5w-50 to 0w-20 on next oil change. would be a big panga considering car is fine with no issues apparently AL HAMD U LILLAH.
