ATF for W202, W210 earlier 722.6 trans?

@Xulfiqar plz elaborate about ATF for early 722.6 NAG1 transmission, should i use Dexron3 (MB.236.1) in it?
MB approval 236.10 is very hard to find now, find Meguin Variable which is 236.1 to 236.11.

The 722.6xx takes a highly friction modified ATF based on the Dexron III-H specification. The meguin variable product works too (not 100% perfect though - think of it as 95%). its suitable for all specs from 236.1~236.11, There are a bunch of other ATFs that work but are sort of hard to find in Pakistan. Pakistan has the problem of "aail aail hota hai"

the cheapest solution around the world is to use Shell ATF 134 but its pretty hard to get in Pakistan. Another solution is to blend some synthetic Dex 3 ATF with some modifier like lubegard HFM (still pretty hard to get)

I personally used two products in Pakistan. shell spirax3403 (got it from dubai) and some lubegard products which were used to blend ATF (mobil1 etc) for compatibility. Customer's choice as one was pricey and one was cheap.

do not use the 220 ATF in this transmission, you will have a burnt up transmission in very short order, The 3309 is a HFM ATF but not completely suitable for this application, the 3309 is actually toyota T-IV which is mineral based with low quality stocks. There are ATFs out there now which are multi use - they include JWS3309 and MB236.10 in the same list - but make sure it actually says that. There is a bit of difference between them.

Sir then what should i do? if i use again Meguin ATF SMOOTH which is 236.14 actually for 7speed NAG2?

one workshop owner said to me do not use 236.14 cuz its bit thin, will make problem for palanetry gear or for its bush e.t.c

You can also use the LM smooth NAG2 ATF in the NAG1 - its about 15% thinner at normal temperature (better fuel economy), its used all over the world in NAG1 now, because its cheaper and endorsed by MB to be used in the NAG1.

Dont use plain dex3 in the gearbox.

I have never been change my trans pilot bush since bought my car, its pilot bush is looks clean & not leaking, so is it ok or should i inspect to open its lock & check inside?

The shaft bushing wears out if the filter has not been change on time and caused low oil to reach the bushing. If its not noisy - it wont hurt at all.

yes - inspect the connector, unlock it and see if there is oil, if you find oil you need to replace the O rings or the whole item, The latest MB part has really thick O rings to seal it it up.

Sir noise is very little bit, from 1st to 2nd, (currently using meguin smooth 236.14) thats why i want switch 236.10 in my next change which is bit thick then 236.14, is this will effect to reduce noise if i use variable 236.10 fluid?

It is necessary to drain atf from trans for changing bush?

The shaft bushing replacement requires complete tear down of the transmission. Before condenming the bushing and tearing down the trans, have you checked the pressure regulator spring - they are known to break in the early transmissions and cause poor shift and noise too sometimes.

I was thinking for spring check but trans is working excellent, if spring broke then what kind of symptoms feel?

the problem is that we need 236.10, 236.12 or 236.14 - which this does not cover, hence we add a modifier to it.

the transmission adapts to the fluid - either do a pedal reset sequence or drive it for about 500 kms - it will relearn the new ATF properties and adjust itself accordingly. The new fluid symptom you write happens with everyone.

In any NAG1 car Ive driven the 1st gear is pretty short and shifts to 2 immediately unless the throttle was booted to the floor - the car feels slow but it sure is accelerating very hard. Under full throttle the shifts of 1-2 are delayed to redline rpm.

If you switch to "W" mode then the trans starts in 2nd gear, very smooth initial pickup.

Ohh...I thought it was fluid's fault, that fluid is slightly feel thick when i was pouring in trans, feel firm shifting, i read many forums about multi-vehicle fluids used in 722.6 NAG1, some peoples using Mobil1 atf & very happy (even a workshop here in lahore using Mobil1 atf in ssangyong vehicles MB engine 722.6 trans in it) mostly peoples satisfied with Valvoline Maxlife which is multi-vehicale atf, a guy in US using DEX3 with Lubegard in his all MBs 722.6 and no problem at all.

you are right trans shud reset can you plz explain me actual reset procedure?
