I believe the slotted stock wheels and flat hub caps are the wrong ones for her. This kind of wheels are correct for 66/67.

The 65s came with smoothies and doomed hubcaps. You can follow my thread for the purpose of comparison, Mine is a September 64 (Model 1965) 1200cc RHD Deluxe, currently under preservation on here at PW. There are lots of wheel pics on this thread:

May I suggest, get rid of the steering wheel/column and get yourself a nice stock steering wheel. Oh and the shifter knob too. Looking forward for the resto thread on the bug.

You are right Reezvan! I picked this car up when it was apparently completely "restored", you can notice the shiny paint. It was however just tonnes of filler on odd dents and then the paint. The reality hits you when you go behind the carpeted floors and front boot.
The plan is to remove the body and all mechanicals and then get working on the frame, have it sand blasted and so on and so forth. The body will be stripped of all paint, dented again and then sand blasted.
I have ordered the new original steering wheel in ivory and should be here in a week or two. I have the other wheel cups as well, I picked them up from a friend...luckily the chrome is still 70%, will give it a good buff.

I follow your thread quiet often and admire your patience. These cars take a lot of time and careful planning. Hope to see yours on the road soon.

Went to the workhop to analyze the engine. Frankly it doesnt look too good. The carb is gone...wont be wise to do anythin with the existing one so will have to get a new one. The generator seems ok, so it will be refurbished. Tonnes of dirt and grime mixed with oil now covers what was at one time quiet an engine. The engine is the famous A-series engine producered over 48 years in more than 14 million pcs. from 1952-2000. The Austin A35 are born with the 948 cc engine and there was very few modifications while the car was manufactured.

Also needed some suggestions with regards to installing a supercharger. Was doing a little research and I came across this

"As you are no doubt aware supercharging greatly increases the power output of any I.C. engine. These low-pressure installations are designed to provide a reasonable increase in bhp but in particular to increase engine torque in the lower and middle speed ranges thus providing greatly improved acceleration and hill-climbing without overstressing the engine, so enabling higher than average speeds to be maintained without the use of maximum RPM. Naturally maximum speed is increased, and what is perhaps more important, becomes readily attainable".
The following test figures clearly indicate the degree of improvement in acceleration:-

I assume with all parts around and machining done, it will be less then 12 working hours before it is ready to PULL the weight

Waiting for the workshops to open, so can start work on the body and the underside. Hopefully we start Monday Inshallah!

So Finally Eid is over and done with and all the mechanics and denters are back to work, so off with the car to the workshop.

A quick stop at the service station for a detailed wash and body analysis

And look what i found...Phew this is going to be harder then i thought, the level of rust is a nightmare!!

It is! But then again what's the fun if it's not the MUTT was one of my very first restos. Has done me well over the years.

First day at the body shop and the denter began by taking of the doors, dash, electric wiring and all switches along with whatever little of the lights could be salvaged. Have ordered new ones ones with complete assembly so wont be a problem.

Next would be the mechanic doing his bit and removing the axles, suspension, brakes and the rear leaf springs, so only the shell is left for the denter to work with. The "monocoque" design of the car does not help at all ...how I wish it was a simple body off resto. Things would've been so much easier.

good luck there man, i was lucky not to have rust even after 50yrs of origional paint almost.....

but its gonna be easy on this car, i must say easier than a beetle as well as the britishers were always simple in engineering and so it can be mended well
