Bhae, criticism and bashing are two different things. I maintain that the article is complete nonsense because the article mentions gearing throughout its length which is demonstrably false.
If you read about D and S, it says holds gears. How does a CVT hold gears when it doesn't have any? The author also responded to my comment with a statement that it mimics a conventional auto transmission which is again crap if you understand how a CVT works. It doesn't unless you have a paddle shifter like the ones on a 1.8 Grande or the Honda N-One or a City Steermatic from the mid 2000's. Then it mimics a torque converter auto but even then, you can tell its not an auto because of the absence of jerks associated with shifting actual gears.
B mode, the article says it will prevent your car from crawling backwards while driving up and prevent the car from running too fast when going downhill by increasing engine drag and taking the RPM to a higher level. That is not how the B mode works. You have to understand the construction of a CVT transmission first. In essence, the B mode holds the pulleys to the lowest possible ratio (large drive pulley and small engine pulley). This limits the speed at which you travel. Your engine will go up to a certain RPM and then the ECU will intervene to stop it from revving too high, normally that limit is 4500 RPM. B mode is not for going uphill and it will not help the car in going forward on an incline. There is a limit to the slope a car can tackle and that depends on engine power, weight, grip and other factors. So for example, a slope that would stop a 660cc Mira equipped with a CVT with 4 passengers would not stop a car equipped with a CVT that has a better power to weight ratio. I've driven a Mira on the route to Kojak Top several times. That is a pass going in and out of Chaman - 5500 ft. elevation, steep slopes all the way (30 degree inclines or more). Just stuck it in S mode and powered my merry way up top. People could not make it up there in a Prius - why? Loads of baggage, full set of people and wrong gear selection. For maximum torque and power, there is the S mode.
What it will do is restrict the speed with which you go downhill. That is the only correct thing mentioned in the entire description.
I hope you understand why I called it nonsense now and also hope you got the enlightenment you craved. All I ask for is a properly researched article that is not full of holes - and I do ask that, every single time I see some article that I know is incomplete or incorrect. Is that too much to ask? The authors on Pakwheels and the editorial staff just don't care - I have asked several authors to research their articles but guess what - still shitty content. So yes, I'll criticise - harshly. Not bash.
