If you have a 4AFE ECU driving a 5AFE engine - I dont quite beleive it because the 4AFE ECU actually requires a cam sensor to synchronize the injectors and firing pulses. If the G- signal (cam sensor) is missing the ECU makes the engine work as "batch fire" meaning all injectors fire at the same time.
Please take a picture of your distributor and post it here, the 5AFE distributor should have 2 wiring plugs, one with 2 wires (coil) and one with 4 wires - 2 are for the crank sensor inside the distributor and 2 are for the ignitor inside it.
the 4AFE distributor should have a 2 wire plug for the coil and a 6 wire plug into the distributor.
Also please indicate if the check lamp is connected and works.
your mechanic is a bit ill informed on his diagnosis, the MAP sensor on the 4,5 and 7AFE are the same output - even mazda and suzuki map sensors will work.
The injectors need not be changed as the problem is elsewhere - first get the original stuff corrected - then we can go into other tuning like fuel trim testing.
