Ban will be lifted on import of 3 years old cars soon

Nothing can be expected from the local government and the car dealers, Even if they lift ban over the import of cars do we seriously believe they gonna sell cheap in the open market ? Dont forget the Ex-Factory price of new corolla Gli is 1414000 but it is openly being sold in the local market for 1500000 !!!

I have only two words for this news item and that is B**L S**T. There's no way they can allow import without running the risk of valuable foreign exchange being squandered and misused. Also, the IMF will not allow such. Period. It seems the media is more speculative and irresponsible than the average person and given to flights of fancy. This is not the first 'news item' about this topic that has come to nothing , really. Sorry if i come across as blunt, but someone has to stop these media folks from printing anything they want to.

You are absolutely correct. We have already committed with IMF to contain our fiscal deficit, improve trade balance amongst various others financial and budgetary targets. The exact reason we are seeing subsidy cuts in form of electricity prices being raised and subsidy on fuel being eliminated. There is a absolutely no way that the government will be allowing import of old cars or reducing duties.

If they do, this would mean no more $$ from IMF and a virtually bankrupt Pakistan

what difference would it make?? Already duties on imported cars are sky high, plus the Govt. is planning on introducing 16% VAT on locally manufactured cars. I say the automobile sector in Pakistan is at the verge of collapsing.

i think that one day due to sky high prices of cars or death traps most of instead govt should allow use of ncp rather then import cars and pay duty
just get a ncp car and pay govt some tax etc but this will happen 100 years from now

the pro car manufacturer policies of govt have turned us into slaves of three brands only toyota honda and suzuki whereas there are hundreds of them.
the lift on ban seems unlikely because we are in pak and here the govt damn cares about what the citizens want and desire.

That would obviously lead to a lower demand in the industry here, getting rid of the premiums on delivery as well as stabilizing prices, that tend to rise every 3 months. It's just upto the government to actually implement this law though. And that seems pretty unlikely, sadly.

and this is exactly why it'll never happen. the local mafia (car producers) pay off the ministers involved and therefore the law is always there to protect local car manufacturers regardless of how inferior and pathetic their products are.

if you all want the law to change,.. YOU change it by refusing to buy local cars for a while (till you get what you want).

i'm leading by example,.. i refuse to buy a local car till they come LOADED with safety features for the current year (int'l standards),.. so far only the civic & swift come close.

its great that mods on PWs are with so much knowledge these days. For ur kind info sir it can be imported there are certain panulties which have to be paid by the importer which makes the car price insane, but one can import it!

Just allow everyone & anyone to build cars at whatever level they can, build one car register it as your patent, name it and sell it and the mafia ends tonight!
