why u wanna swap the engine. none of the experts will encourage u to do this. but YES u can swap.....
if u have concerns about the performance of VW beetle aircool engine u can discuss here. trust me this car is best wid its orignal stuff

I wanna swap its engine as one of my frnd used to have beetle n he faced alot of probs and u knw normally mechanics try to avoid it and getting its parts is not an easy job u have to search for it..n i hve seen ppl swapped beetle's engine with toyota 1.6 gli engine and even with toyota 1N engine

 My sincere advice to you for this route is a big NO. Period.

 a lot of crap has been spread about the original VW engines by the local mechanics which is simply not true :|

Dont go for a different engine as it leads to multiple problems and issues which local mechanics just cannot handle. You will be out of the frying pan and into the raging fire.....

Still not convinced?? I can offer you more reasons and in greater detail.

Engine swap is not recommended…………. The Beetle has been offered as you are planning to buy one. I think a complete Beetle (i.e. without any major modifications) is hard to find……………….

Oh God ......... plz don't go that route.

1. Get a beetle with a good working engine (even one with a non-working engine will do fine).
2. Get hold of a VW mechanic (if you want a ref for a mechanic, a lot of people here can provide u with one)
3. It'll take u less time & money to get one up and running smoothly then trying to install a new one in a beetle - trust me

All it requires is a little bit of attention during daily use and u'll get lots of happy miles out of it.

Just proper maintenance and everything works gr8. This is one of the best cars made - all over the world. You want to believe your mechanic against the whole world that the beetle's original engine is at fault? Maybe he is not telling the truth.

Y would u want to fix something that ain't broke?

Ok guys r right!! now tell me whr should i get the car and which mechanic i shud go to, Pros and Cons of Beetle specially i heard abt its over heating prob, abt it's spares...n whr can i get engine from if needed like i if want to get 1600cc or 1800cc engine then wat i hve to do?

i personally got myself a beetle a month ago...trust me the original engine works just fine...its just that ordinary mechanics cant handle it and theyll giv u false reasoning against it...however there are plenty of beetle specialist mechanics in every city so dont be discouraged.

my car was overheating wen i got it but a simple clean up of the engine did the job.the main reason was the fan was broken.

having fixed that its the most hardy engine ive ever seen.my mehran and city couldnt take the abuse this engine has seen...

as for parts i hav not faced any problem so far...
all parts are available surprisingly cheap and easily.

il advise u to keep the original engine or get a beetle 1.6l engine if u want a swap really bad...PLEASE DONT GET A LARGE WATERCOOLED ENGINE as itll b a lot of hassle making room for it moving the fuel tank.its also rear wheel drive so thatll cause problems.the alteration wil b a headache to complete and a bigger pain to maintain...

Best thing to do is get 1.6 Engine beetle engine

Try to get a good beetle with the bigger engine you are looking for. Or you could always get a lower cc car and change the engine and gearbox to 1600 one. 

Btw the 1500cc engines are also good and more robust than the 1600 dualports.

Thx for the info..would you please tell me what it will cost me if i will get a lower cc car and then swap its engine to higher cc?? e.g. 1300cc to 1500cc??? btw what is the top speed of 1500cc beetle?
