Best Engine oil for old engines. (1993)

Hi All,

I want to know which engine oil is best available for 1993 model engine(Hyundai Excel CNG) . I recently overhauled the engine and engine rings are still on standard size. But very disappointed when the oil level dropped again after running 500 kms. My mechanic told me that now adays the engine oils sold are already used. and cannot bear with high temperature. So when engine gets hot the oil burns it self.

So now I am serious about finding a good quality and cost effective engine oil for my 93 model Excel.

I searched the pakwheels but most people only discuss the synthetic oils. which is not good for old engines. and also are costly.

Moreover after searching many threads I came to the point that Caltex havoline is better brand than others. Before that I had my mind that Caltex oils are all Synthetic.

My Question

Can any one tell me the best engine oil(non-synthetic) with prices if possible

Mobil special , very good oil 100% pure because its sealed cannot be made locally and price is also very economical

I think there must me mobil outlet, otherwise go to any good oil store they keeps mobil brands

Ive used all sort of oils from expensive to cheap and they all drop oil level and my mechanic says he have seen new cars doing it so its normal on most CNG Cars to drop oil level.

Only oil that i experianced helps in this situation is Castrol GTX i am using it for some months now and after they seperated from PSO they have launched it again in Pak Market. With GTX this prob of oil level will be solved by 80%.

Baki for your own experiance you can try all oils and than try GTX

no doubt castrol gtx is a very good oil if you could get the geniune oil,

Visit Standard Autos in G-7, Fire Brigade Market, they deal with Suzuki parts and lubricants - a bit expensive but genuine

Caltex Havoline will b good.. bit dense than others, it will b helpful for ur oil burning issue and also make the engine smooth. Still take consent of ur mechanic as ur engine is new & CH is bit heavy oil....

BTW, how much oil u r losing.... check if there is any other probelm, may be oil seals r not bearing the pressure and causing minor leakages, also check the head gasket!!

also check your head gaskit, and leakages as suggested by V8 - the quality of oil depends on the "film" and quality of "minerals" our mechanics tend to use the one that are apprently more viscious or thick but are unable to withstand high tempratures - GTX is indeed a good choice but personally, I would prefer an imported (UAE) oil over the ones made locally

GTX is 20-50w and its API - SG i know the standard is bit old but believe me u can compare this oil with any modern oil.

Another experiance of mine was with a friend who use to realy rev hard his 125 and u can smell the oil burning but with GTX he never faced this prob

I buy oil from a small shop i know them so i know the oil is fine i dun know if you would like to go there. the shop is in Chor Chowk name is AL noor autos its not a shop actually its a 3X3 shop hehe but they got genuine oil.

Dear V8, 20W-50 is OK, if it is non-synthetic. Last weekend, I opted to overhaul the engine and rings with Gasket were changed. No visible leakage. And now the rings are new so pressure leakage in combustion chamber should have been finished. now I have run about 400-500 Kms, and Oil level is reduced and seems like at least a quarter of oil needs to be filled in. If a quarter of oil is leaked it is surely visible. Now there might be two reasons. 1- The oil quality was not good and it burnt not bearing the temperature. because when I was on a long drive last week end and termperature needle got the half way there was white smoke visible. but white smoke might be because of oil in muffler which deposited there before overhaul. 2-There might be some other problem in engine, like head might be faulty and valves might be leak from where the oil is going in combustion chamber. Any how I must try a good engine oil to check the issue

Did you try Shell Helix RED bottle? I used that when my car was on CNG, and my car never dropped oil, although.. the other oils like the caltex havoline formula, shell's yellow and blue bottle.. they used to drop alot..

Nowadays most people reply think that shell is selling all crap and there is no quality in SHELL oils.
Any comments?

I'm just sharing my personal experience you all are allowed to differ.

In 2001 I bought my first car Honda accord 1993 model as it was my first car I was very excited and try to feed her with the best quality items and oil was one of it, at the time of buy the engine was in A++ condition as it was driven in ISB on petrol I feed her with best quality oil but she starts drinking it, as I get worried and get back to the pervious owner and the first think he ask me which oil you are using I informed him I'm using top of the range oil he sail just come back to RS40/L oil.

Believe you in me after that I never face any oil drinking problem and drove that car for 2years and sell it to 1 of my friend and he is still enjoying it.

RS40/L. which oil is this.

One more thing to share is above image. It suggests the correct API for the engine models.

The oil eating problem might be because of MISMATCH of API and engine model.

in 2000 it cas only Rs40/ltr came in big drums( khula teell)
now a days its also around 100/ltr
