Small gain in mileage alone might not be a good reason to spend money on swap.
Suggest you get a 2nd mechanics feedback on current engine, there might be other reasons for acceleration issue.
On mileage, have no experience of 4d55 but 4d56 TDi use to give 10 on highway n 8 in city. Other members have reported better mileage from 4d56.
