That may be true, but please keep in mind that the engineering of a two door car is little more complex due to the greater distance between the A and B pillars.

I need rear seats. It's not having the option of doing away with rear doors that's a bit of a bummer.

It depends on the floorpan, but the longer the distance between any two sets of pillars, the more issues with keeping the body rigid, specially torsionally, requiring braces and/or other measures. That is why the weight is usually not all that different.

That is an economic decision by the manufacturer not to offer it as an option since the numbers of units sold like that may not offer the return on investment needed to make it in the first place.

Yes, and a rather unfortunate one as far as I'm concerned Hopefully, when consumers start to demand more choices across different segments, and market dynamics change, VW too will change their strategy. In the meantime, VW India should seriously consider selling a couple CBUs of the Golf GT and Scirocco to interested buyers, just like FIAT (India) did with the Cinquecento.
