some gentleman here said that corolla gives out of control feeling, and it is fine with him. Pretty adventrous i must say.

i told u to stop judging others, it will help u in making friends rather then creating annoyance all around, but nothing works i guess. how can u say that people have Mehran, santro etc. and they badmouth about Toyota.
u should check members ride section frequently and keep yourself more aware about who is who.

u went to swat in santro, why, because it was a free ride? u should have rented an XLi, considering your lasting love for it

Check Corolla dealerships and ask them how many come accidented everyday. now i know some people will say that it is because of traffic and all that but this corolla need caucious driving. brakes work with a bang on low moderate speeds when a gentle brake is actualy needed and they work gently at high speeds when a good brake and grip is needed. Try it, and if u r an actual driver u will feel the same. If u r just one Bherr chaal follower then it will make u feel good that u r driving a Toyota no matter how bad it is.
Get a ride to Lahore on motorway in your favourite Corolla XLi, GLi, Altis, 2.0D whatever, put rims and tyres of your choice and come back in one day, then tell me how your back feels along with your butt and legs. Then reapeat the expereince in some other car. Thats the way to judge things. Satisficing decisions are always made with a tassali to oneself that i am fine.

It shakes on its own without no apparent reasons. I am sharing experiences, and dont want experts telling reasons. i have already discussed all this many times as i also have one at home and am always afraid to drive it.

Mics is 100% right about 4 disc and drum theory. It does not make sense to have 4 wheel disc brake wit no ABS, Rather u give the car stiff suspension at front so that it distributes weight at back. marvel of engineering i must say.

Nissan sunny, Optra, Mitsubishi have better braking performance with Drum brakes but TOYOTA will sell coz Investors buy them in 100's and 1000's and then they make sure that they sell all of them at OWN taking advantage of jaahil awaam. In most cases Parhe Likhe jaahil, which are more dangerous then a jaahil.

ha ha ha,,u seem to have good memory about my Swat trip,,first of all a clarification,,the ride in santro was not free of cost,,my friend charged me with every single rupee,,even when we came back to islamabad he got alignment and wheel balancing of santro with my money....

now serious stuff,,,what i have concluded from ur post is that u cant drive the corolla with ease and in a mind free mode,,and a driver is always thinking about the brakes at the back of his mind while driving a corolla,,,,so no peace of mind??am i right ??????

secondly i have heard from reliable sources that in new corolla,,driver should press the brake paddle GENTLY and never with FORCE ,because that will cause the over braking and result will be the skidding of car,,,,,

now if that is the case then i think its a good quality because less physical effort is required on brake paddle to stop the car........

any views about this "theory" ?????

If that is your defination of a good brake then u r fine. When the world is making Elctronic Speed Sensitive brakes, EBD, ABS and what not, we are taking releif from physical effort of moving your foot and pressing it a few mm's against a spring.

This is how lazy we are.

To me a good brake is one which works when needed rather then showing me teeth when i dont need to bite anything.

u have missed on the comfort part. Try doing that. on any passenger seat. worst one is driver seat by the way.

Bhai breaks are needed more on front then at the back. do u agree this much or not. If yes then Drums do just fine in these type of cars for a 70-30 break distribution Front-Rear.

Disc Brakes on all 4 wheels are for high performance cars. But in Pakistan its more of a Selling stunt then an actual need, much like Airbags.

Pressing of the break gently if pointed out by toyota ppl is more effective should be done by them in a real scenario when ur tryin to avoid some1 or something at that moment i dont care how much of a micheal schummacher u r u wont be able to press the brake gently easily :).

Aram say chalo yar,if you drive carelessly you will hit even Ferrari Enzo with ceramic brakes..

   As far as ABS is concerned,lemme tell you that it add disadvantage under very slippers conditions...and since your are AWARE that your car has ABS...you tend to get careless....thats why in a servay it has been found that the no of accidents between ABS and non ABS cars are pretty same...

   drive safely...broken cars can be repaired but broekn brains and Spinal cords dont...

i think, toyo & honda 'll take another 10 yrs to introduce traction control in pak.

btw, older rolla has better braking than current one though still not efficient enough to avoid skidding. and we've discussed many a times the trade-offs associated with this phenomenon. in short, all its got to do with shock absorbz and good ride.

A car will get into a skidding spin if it loses traction on the rear wheels. The phenomenon is also called fish tailing. Loosing traction on front wheels is less dangerous as comparing to loosing tracion at rear wheels. With 4 disc arrangement and no ABS this happens more frequently. Therefore with a 2 disc front and 2 drum rear arrangement without ABS the traction loss will be on front and not on rear. Secondly most ABS are aided by EBD(Electronic force distribution) which does not allow any one wheel to lock at any single time and keeps a distributed braking force on all wheels. Without ABS if rear wheel lock earlier than front the car will go into spin. I have seen our company test drivers experimenting with these combinations on slippery surfaces. A fish tailing car gives a real heart sinking feeling as you can see the world revolving around you and you are helplessly trying to control the car. On the other hand rally drivers do it on purpose to negotiate very sharp turns on gravel and loose dirt.

The theory that 4 disc brakes without ABS dangerous, if true then why Honda put 4 discs in its Exi last year, while it was selling well with 2 discs 2 drums? Exi also comes with General tyres, same as in XLi.

Its a selling stunt, they along with others are playing with psyche of people here.

From old days with cars having drum brakes on all 4 wheels, mechanics used to tell everyone that disc brakes are good and whenever someone drove a disc brake car, he/she felt the difference and liked it. So when manufacturers gave disc brakes on front, they were well received.

Now if u listen that a car has 4 wheel disc brakes it makes a very favourable impact on mind of ordinary user. but in fact braking forces are same on rear tyres whether applied through a drum mechnism or a disc mechanism, coz more force without some cotrol EBD and ABS will result it fishtailing as mics pointed out.

Manufacturer has a lot to gain coz people are ready to pay a price premium easily and will prefer such car over others.

I call it a selling stunt.

On the practical side, disc pads wear out twice as fast compared to drum lethers.

Sir honda need more braking force because it has more Hp and when u apply brake at moderate speeds, it feels good. very simple.

There is always a tradeoff
