while all the cars being built adhere to the minimum level of safety standards, that does not mean that every car built will have the same center of gravity like the bmw M3.
with that said, we're comparing between the older and the newer model corolla. and that's where the center of gravity comparison has entered the debate.
at the end of the day this post is about opinions, and everyone is entitled to their own. including you

Sir Givt of pakistan has a law regrding braking distances and safety features etc.
It is the easiest to pass and no engineeringis needed when u have intentioin of taking maximum advantage from deficiencies in laws and markets.

Drive same model of Toyota which is launched in other countries. 1.8 is coomon launch in many countries and see the difference. Front dampers are stiffer on Pakistani model, why? they say that it is because of the road conditions.
Our GLi is driven in Islamabad mostly and has been taken care off very well. But after 40000 Kms i can feel evry pothole and stone on the steering with sound effects. WHats the use of making such stupid compromise which hampers brake and handling and still suspension cannot work well and last long. Now people will say that it is because of General Tyres but i never placed those tyres on my car. I do know that tyres are not the only thing to blame.
You keep on advocating corolla nd japs and i will keep on giving u food for thought

well well,,i am perplexed,,the brakes of corolla,,,,,i think we can write a book on it and still there will be difference of openions,,u own a "sarkari" corolla,and usually they are driven very roughly ,,thats why u fell rough ride in ur oficial ride,,,,i believe u must have driven a gli,,,,tell me how it feel like to drive it,,specially brakes,,,i know this has been discussd earlier,,but do it one more time for me.

@Spectra. Goodone. No assembler in Pakistan would roll out cars keeping in mind Islamabad's roads. Just take a left turn at Chandni Chowk Rawalpindi and drive a Honda there for one kilometer and then your GLi, you will feel the difference. Honda's belly and soft suspension and handling would touch down on every pothole on that road and most of the roads in Pakistan are like that, while the new Corolla easily manuvers such road conditions. I have tested it myself.

The noice and jerk you feel on your steering was also an issue, just reduce the tyre pressure by two points (do not believe on gueges at pumps) and it will go and give you good braking as well.

i have already discussed a lot in detail. Our GLi is not rough used at all. dont make generalised statements. Its not a challenge or anything but i do know that it is maintained best.

sir my spectra also negotiates those potholes and it does not touch anywhere and it is way better then Corolla when it comes to handling. My spectra has done 61000 Kms and GLi has done 40000

Iz there any difference while driving X, G grade, Assista (corolla) as compared to a local corolla?? the brake issue is wth the pakistani version....wthout ABS.....

but what abt the handling....cuz assista has a higher center of gravity 2......cuz driving a 1.3GLI at 120+kms is not all that great fun !!

every beurocrate in pakistan travel in xli,,,the chairman of all departments travel in xli,,these are important people ,,they will never travel in a safety hazard car,,,,all of them have stock tyres,,all of them driven by "sarkari " drivers,,who usually drive roughly and very fast,,,i have never heard of any accident ,,even minor one..about these "sarkari " cars,,,,do they have any "special " formulas about the brake system of corolla??,,i think not,,,, there has got to be some myth factor about so called poor brakes of xli.

i think braking issue of Z-Gen corolla is worsen much by General Tyres also....using good wheels will sort out this issue....i don't think and don't see as i see hundreds of Xli and Gli in whole day roaming around karachi city but did'nt see that someone hit as he applied brakes and it won't apply...i don't see any cases...as dozens of them are working as radio-cabs so i don't think its much worse as some Honda Freaks make it....its just general tyres and little ground clearance which make it bit difficult....in quality issues of parts.....Toyota is better than all local assemblers are Yamaha is the biggest vendor of toyota and i know the bit about quality issues in that...

@ser_gtr. Very true. Those who say that Pakistani car buyers are "jahil" when they go for Corolla, are absolutely wrong. Nobody would put at stake 9-10 lakh rupees on a dangerous cars even it is JDM or build by Mercedez/BMW (though they dont build economical cars but just as an analogy). Had the braking issue real, the car buyers would not have bought the way they are buying it now. When the own on other makes/brands is declining, it is still very high (0ver 100,000 rs) on Corollas. That speaks a lot about the quality and demand of the car. It is just like Stock Market, the blue chips are always overpriced because they bring proft and dividend. So the fact should be admitted that Corolla is a blue chip as it has always been and the useless propaganda about it should end for good.

sir conduct a survey as Hashim has mentioned. It should include all new corolla users. ask them the same question as is asked in this topic. I am ready to compile results. 95% will say that brakes are an issue in new corolla. Also blue chip buyers always stick to them, so i can safely bet that 90% who own a new corolla must have owned another corolla in the past. so they will be in a better position to answer.

I have talked about bureucrats and cars and Govt. purchasing behavior many times in front of u. why do u keep on bringing same things again.
Now Govt. has ordered city in 1.3 cetagory, why? Army is also going for City 1.3, why?
ask your buruecrats yourself. supposedly u r also a Govt. servant in grade 18. Ask Transport Incharge of your department, do they buy their official cars out of choice. no, they dont. Its one hell of conpiracy, i have been part of tenders and purchase committes when i was in NADRA being representative of Accounts and Finance. Favor exchange is a very small word for what happens whan bulk purchases are made and to what lengths these blue chip manufacturers go in order to get such bulk orders. Please dont let me start on that.
U will soon see green number plate Cities roaming around. Maybe then u will think about something else.

here's the thing. we're not trying to figure out what the general public feels about this. what khan tried to tell otherss was, what he experienced and tried to warn others.
If one has a car and he/she doesnt feel comfortable with it, then it doesnt matter if 99% of the population thinks it's ok. to that one person, it's still bad ! simple as that.
conducting a survey, nevertheless, might be a good idea and worthwhile.

@khan, i agree with you on the higher center of gravity and the unstable feel in the new corolla versus the older model. I own the older model and drove the newer one extensively as well.
I'll take the handling and better seating posture of the older one over the new one.
Can't comment on the brakes as that is something I didnt pay much attention to when driving the new one. It was all city driving within inslamabad.
