without ABS new corolla brakes suck (full time unless u r kind of a lady driver or old thats over 60). they dont have the STOPPING POWER just skidding power and inemergency u tend to brake with full force and skid out of control. which the new corrola loves to do. i guess people who say that xli gli OD brakes are ok are those who have never slammed their brakes just for fun. they will know what i mean when they do it, take it to 60km and slamm u r brakes on a empty wide road let it skid for 3-4 seconds then u will know that it just keeps on skiding, you will say to urself it should have stopped by now but it wont that what the problem is, especially if u use the genral tyres other tires fare a bit better but the car still skids on. depneding on road conditions it may turn on any side while skiding or even stay in a line but a long line. dont worry one test will not ruin ur tyres
with ABS they are kind of ok for most driving conditions. (not really bad nor really good)but the ABS kicks in real quickly
Just for comparison the orignal brakes of 2001 city were the best i had driven in a mid sized car, it is hard to control the braking (stopping) force avaible in that car
2001 corolla brakes were good for petrol versons for deisel its was just ok.
i feel deisel requires more powerful brakes to stop.cause of its weight and engine torque features.
reason for poor brakes new corrolla: manufacturer / design fault (both due to indus mostly but a little due to toyota as well)
people at indus has just raised the car to get the road clearence and the stiffer shocks for persumeably road conditions this F**Ked up the design /safty features of the Japs. and toyo guys may be have made a choice fault in the brake design and power. may be like us they choose the cheapest possiblity out of the all options avialable
an advice:
be a corrolla owner but be just have the guts to describe the faults in ur car
