Brand New VW CC; Rear Ended (Reason Tailgating)

A very close friend of mine (From Karachi) had an unfortunate event few weeks back. This was one reason I posted the thread ( https://www.pakwheels.com/forums/news-articles-driver-education-safety/228288-every-day-unsafe-driving-behavior-we-all-involved-tailgating ).
There was stop and go traffic on an exit and a SUV rear ended their car. They in return hit a Accord at front. Their car actually slipped under car at front. The driver who was driving the SUV mentioned that she was looking at GPS and in a speed and didn't realize she was too close to traffic at front.

The car is 2013 VW CC, a 4 door coupe with 2L TSI engine. The driver and passenger seat belts sealt belt tensioner were deployed. The impact was so strong that my friend and his mother got severe shoulder bruises and neck sprain. There is no doubt if they were not in belts they could have gone for serious head and back injuries. The car was evaluated and the damage was less than 70% of the car value so it wasn't written off when initially but now some more parts need replacement and chances are this will get totaled. Initial estimate was $16.5K. The rear ending driver insurance company will be paying for damages. The car has less than 2000 miles on ODO.

what a beautiful car ruined just because of tailgating and a mistake of the other person.

While we were at shop a SUV came in for repairs as well, who rear ended a truck. :) slipped on ice actually.

Yes. People don't realize a danger until get involved themselves. Some learn from mistakes and some just get charged again to perform another one. Accident happens and zero accidents on the roads is absolutely not possible but following saefty is the key to reduce..

Well in NYC the current rate of labor (no parts) is above $100 per hour. Denter and equipment is available.. the cost of repairs are expensive as well as the safety is paramount. if there is any minute reason concern of safety.. The car will be declared totaled.

yes you can @faiz.aslam.121 It depends what is the fair market value of the car (not accident). So if you owe money on loan you will pay the bank the remaining amount of the totaled car. Thats the reason people keep gap insurance on their policy as well.

The $1000 deductible will be refunded ( reason being my friend was at zero fault) The cost came less than 70% so Not totaled. But my friend now putting it on sale.

Fazal bhai ... hum jitna marzi bol lyn, people will do what they like... Basically we need to change the mind and thinking of people.. According to my thinking those people who tailgate havent think for once for their safety and others.. Safety can reduce the risk of accident.

On Thursday night am coming back with my family 3 cars and SUV are tailgating and speed will be almost 100km/h in fast lane and am in 2nd lane almost at the speed of 85 km/h and I normally keep a distance of more than 200 meters from front car, on diversion the 1st car coincidentally applied the break and immediately I thought that all these 4 vehicles will be gone, but SUV guy applied brake immediately and turned to right, and ALHAMDULILLAH there is no one on right side at that time, other wise it will be a big bang between all four...

On Friday night ALHAMDULILLAH am saved also from tailgating, and that too on Traffic signal and that signal also has camera. one car from my right immediately came in front of me to take right without giving turn signal, and at that time light is yellow, behind me there is shahzada (van owner), who was tailgating me from almost more than 500 meters and am continuously warning him by slowing speed and hazards but he is not understanding that, when I immediately applied the brakes (the time I applied brakes signal became red, if I cross the signal I will get a fine of 300 riyals) due to the shahzada who takes left by coming from my side, he (van owner) got confused and applied brakes immediately, and ALHAMDULILLAH saved, I applied brake in such a way to save him and my self and even when my car stopped, my car front is almost 1 meter ahead of camera, means camera pole is in middle of my car. After this incident that Van owner was behind me for almost more than 3 km but with a distance of almost more than 200 meters... In case if he hit my car, you cannot believe what he will say, he immediately say this "Sorry My Brakes Haven't Applied", those who all do tailgating here, they always have this reason when they hit the car "Sorry My Brakes Haven't Applied - ماليسش سيارة ما ماسكت فرامل"

Saw some more ruined ones when we went to check ongoing repairs of the car.
