Bribe from Sindh Police on Karachi Hyderabad Motorway

Recently, I traveled from Karachi to Lahore in my car which is registered in Lahore. I was stopped by Sindh Police on Karachi-Hyderabad motorway and they asked for a NOC since my car was not from Sindh. I didn’t had one so they said they will fine me and will have to collect my papers from the court. After all this drama, they asked me to pay on spot (bribe) and leave which I didn’t have any choice of. Is this normal here in Sindh that I have to carry the NOC? I was with my family and I didn’t want to risk their life so I bribed them

unfortunately, we have to face such culprits and their intention is just to reach your pocket.. NOC is required only if your car is being transported on trailer otherwise no NOC needed.. as i said they want just money so even if you had managed NOC, then they would have raised any other non sense issue like show Driving/Road Signs book or 3rd party road insurance and these also have no requirement, importance or value.. but they just want to trap you and when you are unable to present they scare with all fines.. i have faced them several times so writing based on experience.. you just need to stand strong and they will just let you go..

Are the local police eligible to fine us? I thought only traffic/motorway police can fine us. Since this was my first time traveling by car, I got scared and they started demanding money. The guy in the police van started writing in the challan book which I think was just a tactic to scare me.

One good thing about motorways is that the black jerks cant do anything. Motorway police deals in all matters of motorway. They were just trying to make easy money by scaring you.

3 nights earlier one goon stopped me because i was carrying petrol to home for the generator since their is no electricity for 5 days.

This idiot has the audacity to tell me il take you to jail, carrying fuel is a crime.

A out of city car might be questionable. But if its in your name or if you have a noc from the owner and the car is clear from CPLC. The police shouldn't have any issues.

I have never seen a Sindh Number vehicle being stopped for no reason in Punjab during the last 30 years. There was always a stigma associated to Sindh registration due to fears of tampering etc, but no issues with police.

Just to let you know, I have traveled the length of Punjab multiple times.

I have used Sindh register cars in Lahore and still have one. Contrary to what you said, I have never been stopped by police, was challaned oncein 2012 that too for using phone while I was going through Sher Pao bridge Cantt check post.

But thats just my experience, maybe your car has attracted unwanted attention from Punjab Police.

Post is about Bribe and should stay about bribe. It is immoral and unethical, downright criminal. Wherever it happens.

But seen and heard some incidence about these no being wrongly charged or interrogated,

Back in early and mid 90s the police did stop vehicles which they thought were easy money making targets. A lot of stolen cars from Sindh were also making their way into Punjab and up North so police took advantage and tried to take bribe some times.

They rely on their judgement of the car and the face of the owner to stop them.

As far as I know, Sindh Police has no jurisdiction on the Motorways or the Highways unless you are passing through a city, town on N5 or any other national highway. Indeed the objective of the Sindh police is to extract money on one account or another. If you have all the relevant papers they may ask for the highway code book which they have no reason to ask or to check. Same for Levies in shalwar kameez. if there is a legal expert on this forum that person may be able to confirm, it would be appreciated.

I have driven a Sindh plate car in Lahore and ISB and also a Punjab plate car in Karachi for an extended period of time and have never been flagged.

I just returned from a 7 day trip and was neither stopped/flagged nor did I see or come across a police check post on M9 or N5 from Hyderabad to Sukkur.

Paisay ka chakar hai. Usually they pray on drivers who look confused. They really are good at catching such cars. I am driving around isb registered car in Hyderabad and Karachi for few months apart from traffic police in Khi no one has dared to stop, that too because of tint glasses.

I was once stopped at Mangla by Punjab police, just by looking at Karachi number plate. And the intention was the same ,to milk as much as they can, as the found the travellers are not local. They also demanded so many un necessary papers and when we argued, thier reply was the same, "That we will lockup the car, you can challenge these requirements in local court tomorrow morning". That's the last card being used by police in every province. Because they know that he is a traveller and can't wait till tomorrow.
So demand started from Rs.2000 and he became our brother in Rs.500.

I am shocked to hear your sad traveling story. It's pathetic that our police is notorious for grabbing cash money from the travelers. Seems they don't have self respect and it is these people who are spoiling the image of Pakistan.

sindh police & sindh police is targetting punjab registered vehicles very often. One of our fruits supplier is based in multan after ashura he was coming to pay us visit in Sajawal. In area between Khairpur & Hala he was stopped by Traffic police twice . being owner of his honda brv vehicle his documents license were all in order. still they wanted rs.500 as chai pani.
He avoid motorways because he does not like the vast emptiness.
