Car Care and Detailing Dreams (Part 3)

Oh n now I am in doubt now.
I am thinking of preping my car to atleast get good results from glazing/ sealing / waxing.
For this I have to compound n polish first.
I cant invest right now in da polisher ( though I need it desperately to save time n get better results ).
So going for hand method rather than just do nothing.
I wil use meg UC with burgundy pad n meg UP with orange pad with hand. N to get max results from hand method n avoid ripping off my arm, I will do lil sections daily. But seeing above discussion', if even DA can't keep swirls off only for 2 wks or say with one wash then its useless for me go with hand method.
BTW the mthod i wanted to with will be e.g on bonnet :
WASH -> CLAY ( autoscrub ) -> COMPOUND (UC) -> POLISH (UP) -> GLAZE (hi glaze) -> WAX (3m paste wax) -> QUICK DETAILER.
One section daily.
What are your views? Is it method ok to go with provided the situations?

2. How much time difference is needed after first coat?

3. Is glaze stops wax to give maximum protections to the paints?

Hand application and DA application, does remove oxidzed paint. It will inprove color and reflections even with hand application. With DA definately you can improve on swirls a little bit. Use a very coarse pad with DA, highest speed and uniform pressure. Several passes on 1 spot.

So its not like that you should not use any compound and polish at all.. use it. But dont take it too seriously and dont break ur shoulders as you do it

Routine for a general detailing enthusiast should be somewhat like this:
-Full detail every 3 months ( using hand polishing or DA ), use all what you have got including glazes. Remove imperfection as much as you can and then mask as much as you can. But dont break ur arms off! Lol.. keep it manageable! It should be fun routine.. not a labour!
-Daily maintainence with a waterless wash spray/detailing spray/ light spray waxes do the same job
-Routine washes atleast once a week with wash + wax shampoo + a good spraywax/ spray sealant
-Re wax your car twice a month or every second wash with a good sealant wax.

If this sort of routine is follwed.. even if your car isnt 100% swirl free, it will appear to be swirl free and look much better

Waxes are not like cement! The more u apply the more strength u'd get... I seriously believe that layering concept is extreeeemely over rated! It urges people to waste more of their product so that they keep buying more...

1 wax layer at 1 time is enough! Maintain it with spray wax or detailing spray. Using excessive thick coats and multiple layers does not do much... excess product comes off the paint as u buff and there will be always just a light thin layer that bonds and stays there

So save ur wax pots.. keep 1 high end wax and detailing spray of same series/brand to maintain.

And u can use most wax/ sealants after glazing. If u use any paint prep solution before applying sealant, it will totally remove the glaze, its oils and its fillers... killing the purpose of glaze
And hence ud get masked swirls back before u wax/seal.

Hence if u have totally got rid of swirls... dont use glaze.
If u have imperfections to mask.. use a glaze but dont follow with APC solution/ IPA/ any prep material.

Just go ahead with the wax/sealant.

Friends any remedy or precaution to avoid stone chips? My car has 2-3 small stone chip marks on front bumper, un-noticeable from few feet away but still it makes me uncomfortable. I know it is normal when a car travels on highway but is there any kind of shield, tape etc available which we can attach to front bumper to avoid it in future?

Apply touch up paint on the chips and that would hide them.

You can opt for following:
1. Apply PPF ( Paint protection film) transparent on front of your car.
2. Get your car glass coated with a very strong coating
3. Keep in mind that dry, rough and unnourished paints chip off more easily than nourished ones so keep the paint hydrated

Clear bras are solely made for this purpose but I don't know if this service is available in Pakistan. It is basically a clear wrap.

They are usually coated in UV protector/tire shine gel.

I was on a UK Forum today, and I noticed they were totally leaning on Scholl Concepts items S17/S40 etc or Menzenma etc. No mention of Megs, although they are also easily available on their and other websites.

Any idea why is that, or will I get a better result using Scholl items?

Scholl concepts is a top rated German brand and their polishes and pads ranges are very good. I have school concepts s3 gold xxl and s20 black and s40 (also got several of their pads from white spider to neo honey to navy spider and purple cutting pad).
S20 black is a more improved version of s17+. Truly a one stepper with great finish.
S3 is great for hard paints and finished down great in its own.
S40 is the jeweling finish polish that offers extra wetness to the look and great at refining finish for those who like to take things to the next level.

So in your opinion, S17+ can be replaced by S20, and S40 for the finish? Will be getting used on my Bimmer.
