Car Insulation

So summer is just around the corner is ISB and i'm sure in south it has already started.Therefore, we'll be seeing a lot of threads regarding Car cooling systems.Which made me wonder that we (including me), normally put our whole attention in upgrading/optimizing our car's AC,but give very less thought about insulating our car's.why???I think if a car is properly insulated then it will not only retain the cooling but also make AC 'trip' more and hence less fuel consumption.Please share your ideas (or practicals) about car insulation.
For a start,I would like to as can we use thermaphor or thermapore (I hope i spelled it right coz check spell is giving me error on both words) sheets to insulate the roof and doors of a car??

its simple, coz insulation either is very expensive or not available in pak. proper insulation like dynamat, which is like sticker, not underlay is not ubiquitous in Lahore. also few years back the expense of putting it in your cars roof, hood, firewall, and floor was more than 25k so it is not worth investing. i don't know about any cheap alternatives other than jumbolon; but it is very hard to apply in car.

Depending on how much insulation you want in your car, Dynamat is an expensive option .. but it is necessary to go this route if you have a new car.

A cheap alternative, an vulnerable to moisture retention thus acting as a catalyst to start of rusting process, is the carpet underlay. I have noticed some PW friends have done sound insulation in their cars using underlay.

If you go the Dynamat route, you will need about 2.5 bulk packs for your trunk, and not less than four for the cabin. With cost not less than 10000 per bulk pack, this is going to be expensive.

If you want to go for complete insulation, then you will have to use Dynamat inside the fenders, etc ,,,, Total insulation can touch 100000 ... so my advice for you is to think of how much you want to spend .. probably it will help to visit the Dynamat website, and so many DIYs on YouTube.

All,I have found out over the time that for all the fancy stuff which is available abroad can mostly be made/bought here in Pakistan, using just regular materials.for example,I bought some stuff from USA which cost me $4/piece (which cannot be customized as per my liking) and later on i found out that the same stuff along with my own customization can be easily made here using widely available material in fraction of the above mentioned price.So currently i'm looking for ANY insulation type material and will modify it so that it can be used in cars.

Yes you are right. I suggested Dynamat, but it primarily meant for sound insulation and may prove to be too costly for thermal insulation that you want.

dude open the links and see that this product can be used for cars too. its cheap alternative to dynamat. the only problem is how to import it.

I think in Pakistan,some companies are doing thermal insulation for roofs as well.Donno what kinda stuff they use.

2. 1 Upgrade your factory under-hood insulation. While the under-hood insulation helps to prevent fire, it also plays a role in reducing engine noise entering the cabin. Make sure your replacement is proven to reduce engine noise and fireproof. While you're under the hood, you can also add an engine cover. Many modern vehicles already have engine covers, but older ones don't.
3. 2 Install carpet padding in between your carpet and the metal floorboard of your car. Most cars have carpet padding, but it is designed to be more cost-effective and less effective at reducing interior sound levels. A large portion of road noise travels into your cabin from underneath the vehicle; upgrading to a thicker, more efficient carpet padding will reduce the interior sound level. Although the procedure can be done at home, the seating and carpet must be removed, so professional installation is recommended.
4. 3 Apply a sound-deadening material, such as Dynamat, between the metal and plastic in your door panel. The material will better insulate your cabin and drastically reduce noises from being piped in. Installation is fairly straightforward; most of the materials are self-adhesive. Removing your door panel is required. Many sound shops will take on the project if you aren't able to do it yourself.

No doubt this topic will be most informative in the days of summer.. Its better to share ideas to each other.. may be any idea will click ones mind..

In the market, heat insulating cables are available which are used in giant electric ovens. these cables are of same material like in ordinary cables made of copper conductor but their insulation is designed to bear oven's heat. That insulation is made of paper/cloth(i m not sure).. If you search that insulation from local market, I think this can also solve the problem..

anyone has experience with diamond Jumbolon rolls? people's opinion on it are on extreme ends. any having personal experience? If its good, I'll give it a try.
