With the improving economy of Pakistan, the country’s middle class has seen an exponential growth, which has birthed a massive demand for vehicles. Add in the growing popularity of ride-hailing services into this mix and we have an incredible -never seen before- boom in Pakistani auto industry.

On the contrary, where local auto manufacturers are registering record sales, the wait time for new motorcars have really plummeted to an unprecedented high. The simple fact is that auto manufacturers can't keep up with the demand, which has led to a vacuum in the market. This has resulted in an exponential increase in the premium values of locally assembled cars.

Following is a list of the current Premium rates and booking times on locally assembled cars.

The article should have continued to also explain the negative effects of this and an overall view/analysis of the auto industry's limited capacity and concluded by making recommendations about the need for lesser taxation/duties (for both CBU and SKD imports) to bridge the gap between limited (local manufacturing) supply and excessive consumer demand.

Currently, it looks like the author started writing the article but found something more important to do halfway through so posted it as is instead of completing it. I really hope PW improves its blog's standard.

Until and unless new entrants launch their products we have to bear this because variance in demand and supply is rising exponentially.
Currently BIG three unable to meet demand.

Govt should apply some extra amount as penalty if new reg on any other name other than the invoice name from the manufacturer. For example if i invoice corolla from Toyota Pakistan and not registering on my name it means i had sold this car on premium, So new name has to pay 200000 rupees as panalty . Time frame should be one year for that.......

another mistake i.e. corrolla altis 1.6 own is 150K and booking time is 1-2 months? (com-on yar) why would somebody pay 150K if he gets this car in 2 months.
actual booking time for altis 1.6 is same as corrolla GLI automatic.
secondly altis 1.8 and grande there is no own you can get those car without own and delivery would be within 1 month only (which is normal for pakistani awam). Indus motor are struggling to sale those cars. 90% of there sale is XLI/GLI.
Another mistake is Cultus VXR own is 80-100K and above table indicates no own. think logically somebody want to purchase wagonR and own is 100K (as per above table) and total amount is 1.3 million while new cultus no own VXR and cost is 1.25 million. (what do you do )

The waiting time for WagonR VXL is 5 months... I booked in April and the date given to me is 28 Auguest.

It is a good post and gives a fair idea about premium, although figures may not be 100 per cent correct. I have two questions.

1) What will be the approximate premium on Corolla XLI which is due to come after modifications sometime in October if booked now?

2) If somebody chooses to buy XLI later, let's say in early 2018, are there any chances he may pay relatively lesser premium?

I will appreciate if the writer or anybody in forum and PakWheels reply these questions. Thanks.
