Very strange laws in this country.. WHT is a federal subject and federal area has not increased a penny! ya shayed kisi ko notification bhejna yaad nai raha

Employer can legally do it. It is about the level of facilitation they want to offer to employees about it. I am a payroll guy and have changed 3 jobs so far, have done this is in all 3. Even facilitated people with filing of tax returns.

2100 Rs for less than 10 years old if its Toyota or 1298 - 1299 cc and some 3300-3400 rs if it is 1.3 City or Liana

Went to Lahore township post office and took along with me ntn certificate and tax return. Post office guy was not known to fillers and non fillers issue. After disscussion with head post master, he phoned to GPO for confirmation and confirmed that for fillers there would half advance income tax. So in my case civic 1.8 tax would be 8100+6000+200=14300 (vehicle tax +advance income tax + professional tax). Then I talked to my accounts department of my company they said they have no issue at all in adjusting remaining 6000 from my annual income tax adjustments from salary. So for me in the it would be 8100 Rs only....I think that I can digest easily.

People get it back alot in my city but it takes time smtime 1 week smtime 9 months

@arslan..I am not tax expert but try to respond your question basing on information I gathered subject to this matter in previous two days from my lawyer and from my account people. This is totally boby trap by fbr people sitting in Islamabad. Every year when you will submit your income tax return your name will be included in active tax payer list and ntn valid verification certificate will only issued based wether your name is included in that list or not...so you can not get valid certificate if your kind father has not submitted last year tax return...in case if it was submitted then based on valid ntn certificate you get 50% off and rest you have to get by adjustment in next year return....so you will be bound to submit your return honestly..one thing more you can get refund if it is registered in name of ntn number holder. The best way to get adjustment is by your employer from your annual tax adjustment they are legal to do that and law gives that authority to them...in other way you have to submit your refund claim to fbr and trust me this is tedious process and may involve risk of audit of your whole decleration which surely could be a unpleasant experience altogether for you. Now you can evaluate your case yourself.

My car is 2012 1.6 corolla Altis !!
This is even less then my last car's token which was 07 Gli 1.3 with 3570 token tax rawalpindi registered !

Brother all the people that you have mentioned in your post will also be paying the same rate of taxes as us. No one is exempted. As far as tax fraud/evasion is concerned, that can be attempted by anyone having such an intent.

My grandfather paid 17,300 for his 2005 Honda civic vti 1600cc in lahore (defence GPO)
He took his ntn certificate but they asked him to show them a receipt of payment made to the FBR for his income tax- he didn't have it.
He's retired (84 years), and he doesn't own anything (all property distributed amongst kids) and pays his tax (of whatever savings he has).
He isn't that type of person who argues when it comes to money. But my blood is boiling. This is insane!! How can they charge 17,300 from a retired citizen who also pays tax??

What sort of payment receipt were they asking for? Isn't the ntn certificate good enough as proof of payment of tax?

The acknowledgement slip form last year's E-Filed tax return.. ajeeb mulk hai even if you dont have any income you must file return!
