Car vibrating when stationary in D but not when moving

I have a 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer 1.6 GLX SR with CVT. Recently, the car has started vibrating when it is stationary and in D as in at a traffic light. But the car becomes smooth again when I put it in N or start driving. What could be the issue?

when did you last change the transmission oil

I change it every 40,000 km. Got a big barrel of Mitsubishi Diaqueen SPIII imported from Dubai. Last oil change was on 80,000km and car is currently on 105,000km. Oil is clean.

I also believe the problem is not in the transmission or torque converter as it would be consistent with the car moving as well. In this case it only occurs when the car is in D and stationary,

check for engine & transmission mountings. Replace all which are fractured or have sign of fracture

@capsat: That was my hunch as well. Will have to inspect. This'll be a major expense though. Eid bonus isi mein chala jayega

Is advisable to change all mountings at once or just the fractured ones? My belief is that if some mountings are bad then the others won't be far behind......banda aik hi dafa sari tension muka de.

@dayrider: I follow fuel quality very closely. Silencer is perfect brown and I regularly get fuel filter, injectors and throttlebody cleaned.

you can get the mounts checked and replace only those that need replacement, not all give up in the same time period. Does the rpm stay at 800 and it vibrates or does the rpm drop?

Could be low rpms. Get RPMs adjusted and throttle body cleaned.

Rpm does not drop. Throttle body is already clean because I had it cleaned last month.

you used diaqueen spiii in a CVT?

its specced for J4 CVT which is a jatco (nissan) spec. and also 95% close to toyota CVT fluid.

the vibration you feel is the torque converter dragging its clutch mostly due to metallic debris from the push belt getting lodged in there, the debris would have been generated from rapid wear from using sp-III oil. Hope its not the sheave assembly locking up on its collars as that is a literal death sentence for a CVT. CVT oil is used to provide adequate friction between the push belt and the sheaves and cool them down too, ATF is specced to ease stalling of clutch packs for smooth running.

btw - SPIII is easily available in Pakistan sold as Dexron3, its sold both by caltex and mobil in any quantity ranging from 1 litre bottle to 200 litre drum to 1300 litre totes.

does the sound comes when the car is in D and brake is slightly pressed?
is it gone when brake is fully pressed?

There is no sound. Just vibration when in D and car stationary. When you release the brake the car becomes smooth again.

The owner's manual of the car mentions the oil as Diaqueen SPIII for CVT.

this car has a JATCO CVT in it - its the one delivered by Dewan Motors right?

get someone to put car in gear while idling, inspect motor mounts for tears at the point.

You will need to feel them too. the vibration should not be transmitted to the body shell from the mount.

Usual mount failure in mitsu is the big transmission mount failing first, which then loads the engine side mount, when both fail the engine rests on the torque control mounts which are not designed to take any load.

Yes. It's the one with the JATCO CVT. And it's the one sold by DEWAN motors, however, the owner's manual mentions the Diaqueen SPIII oil for its CVT. the CVT has been working very well over the years despite the car being 12 years old now......feels just like new other than the few age related part replacements.

My guy in DEWAN advised to first inspect the ignition coil wiring for short circuits or water penetration, get the car tuned and mountings inspected.

Transmission mounts need replacement before doing anything else.

the same problem is am experiencing with my Vitz 99.
The car vibrates in stationary condition as well as in D & R this normally happens when engine is cold.
After pushing acc. pedal 2 3 times it gets normal.
some one suggested me to check the throttle body and catalytic converter cleaning but i haven't done yet.

always target engine & transmission mounts whenever car is vibrating at stationary. In D & R check for the transmission fluid
