I would also love to see an impact driver tighten to a specced torque value, I use them to zip up stuff then use a proper torque ratchet (torque wrench) to tighten up properly. - I bought a Hazet a long time ago and it was freakishly expensive but worth it, till today I have had it calibrated 12 times (once a year) and every single time its come up to spec without any change.
I also have an italian origin clicker low torque wrench to use for delicate stuff and one scale type too for the really really low torque jobs like checking drag etc.
I fully comply to your comment of workmanship, money does not matter when it comes to workmanship. If cardboard gaskets were accepted then that shop will have absolutely no legacy to look back to. They cannot look back and be proud of "hey I made cardboard box gaskets and fooled customers thats how this business stands till today". They will be forgotten as soon as the customer leaves the shop.
