You're right.
And I also agree we should be a little more lenient towards new entrants.
But I personally don't see Chery sustaining on mere crossover offerings. Infact the only attractive product is tiggo 8 pro. Tiggo 4 hasn't attracted half the crowd, and I expect it to stay the same, unless it comes in the Yaris/City territory.
Changan otoh has a pretty unique portfolio, with a sedan and MPV already selling reasonable well. On top of that it's backed by Master group (pretty experienced in automotive part manufacturing), I just couldn't ignore that aspect.
And to be honest, trying a Chinese product is a pretty bold move to begin with, so I personally had to atleast hold one side safe (the local partner should have some credibility).
For services, trust me, not even honda, toyota and suzuki people know how to maintain their cars. I bought a Toyota (then a honda and a suzuki - the experience was constant) thinking that at least I could take it to a dealership and not worry about periodic maintenance. But to my surprise, they don't know how to refill coolants (if the right one is available in the first place) , change transmission oil, and that tappets are not to be messed at on mere 30k driven cars. Heck their mechanics even mess up oil refill quantities.
If I have to know everything myself, and supervise the whole thing to save my car from abuse, what difference does it make, buy from big 3 or Chinese. The first 30k - 40k ownership experience should (ideally) be the same in terms of service and parts
