Visited today at the Ferozepur Road dealership. Interestingly my very first impression sitting inside the Tiggo 8 was the quality of the meter, despite some of the reservations about it above. I was not too keen on the design myself earlier, but irl I was pleasantly surprised. Very high resolution screen. And animations are smooth, overall I was quite happy with meter and infotainment, which was fairly responsive and had Android Auto/Carplay capability. Tested speakers at full volume which were fairly decent, not 'amazing' but adequate. I'd rate them about equal to Sportage. Keep in mind I did not play around with sound settings too much, this was based on bluetooth connection/default settings.
Now the car itself. I personally felt it would be a little more roomier than it actually was. That's not to say it was small, but cabin space is equivalent to Sportage for first two rows.. With a third row available due to greater length. Maybe it's the design of the dashboard and middle console, but i felt the seats were slightly narrower. But overall seats were very comfortable. They are artificial leather but still felt good quality with soft touch material. Third row expectedly is quite cramped, but suitable for kids. With third row folded down the boot space is far more than a Sportage. One impressive thing was the panoramic roof which is very big, completely covering second row and almost going back into third.
Paint quality was not too impressive imo. White seemed good enough but the purple colour had that texture where it feels like there is extra paint on the body. Definitely needs a good paint correction there. If I rate the paint on my Sportage (panthera metal) a 10, this was a 6 at best. Only white and purple colours were displayed and they are only taking bookings in three colours, white, purple and black. Given that the purple wasn't too impressive, I would probably stick with white for booking. The brochure shows a silver colour which I wish was available. Dealership was saying 45-60 days delivery time, with a booking amount of 1.5 million. On the whole, personally I feel Proton X70, even though a little bit dated, is slightly more refined. However this is pretty close in quality too, apart from minor niggles I couldn't find any deal breakers. The only concern is after sales service and support, dealerships are very new and still under construction. Unfortunately there is no test drive available yet. The quoted delivery time is seriously tempting and we are in two minds about sticking to X70 or going for this. X70 was booked on Feb 2 last year and 13 months later there is no sign of delivery, but these guys seemed pretty confident of on time delivery. Took a few pictures/videos.
