Civic Reborn Transmission Shifting Issue (Random - resolves after restart)

I have a Civic 2010 with 92k KMs on the Odometer. Earlier I posted an issue about a whining noise from the transmission that ultimately got resolved after a transmission swap.

Now a new issue is coming. "randomly" when I start the car, sometimes the car shifts from N to D and then through the gears with a big jerk. Also, the drive is limited to the first (or second) gear only.
I just park the car, put in P and turn car off/on and the problem is resolved.

Any idea what this could be related to? The transmission seems to work and shift flawlessly after restarting the car. The D light doesn't blink, other wise it could've indicated an issue in the transmission itself.

Could this be a faulty MAF sensor? Or some other sensor? I called up one of the scanner guys he said remove the battery terminals and shorten the wires to discharge the card (idiot).

You are facing typical honda transmission lube regulating valve, whats happening is that this valve is getting stuck in partial position and then the gear select is slamming into drive.

Or

You have a partial clogged internal atf strainer which is not allowing full oil volume to get pulled by the pump.

Both cases require transmission tear down to rectify properly, you can do the disconnect battery everytime till this gearbox fails hard and then go buy another junked/scrapped one.

I’d recommend to fully flush transmission use honda dw1 fluid and replace atf filter. Maybe oil wasn’t changed on time and some xyz atf was used.

Today my driver told me that when he started the car the D light was blinking. Upon connecting scanner I found below error. Is it still linked to lube valve or strainer? Or just the solenoid?

the main lube valve - rarely its the strainer.

Dropping the car today at the workshop. He said he would change something called "Valve Body" . I assume that's the name of the complete unit containing the valves and the solenoids.

Would that work?

Ok so update:::

1. Changed all the so called "valve bodies" a.k.a solenoids
2. Changed all the sensors including the one for shifter etc.

Problem still there.

Showed it to an electrician who claims that the ECU (or some similar chip made by DENSO) has an issue and needs swapping. Based on his Insistance I have done a temp swap . Till now car seems to be ok.

Interesting thing was this ONLY happened if you start the car and put into R , then put Into D ... The problem. Doesn't occur if you go direct from P to D. This is weirder because it resets or corrects if u turn the car off/on again.

Solenoid is not valve body. The valve body is the mechanical valve unit inside a Honda transmission. Its literally behind the bell housing. Thats what surprised me when you said mechanic will change the pressure valve body of a Honda autobox and make it road ready within the same day.

Advice: Go to an actual automatic transmission specialist rather than a general mechanic.

I understand what you mean. I'm in a fix here, because apparently this guy is a transmission guy and all he does are automatic and CVT gearboxes

If this “transmission guy” calls solenoids as valve body then he is same kind of engineer that Agha Waqar was (pani wali gari sarkaar)

Showed it to another guy. He apparently tried swapping out the ECU for some reason. Didn't work.
The car still behaves the same way. When I put into R and rev, it stays like that for a few sec and then suddenly slams to gear. Putting it into D then limits the gear to third gear only.

Tomorrow I'll go to another guy who will dismantle the transmission housing to check inside.

you are still opting for people to experiment on your car? This is a critical failure in a Honda Autobox. I can bet that the torque converter is now fried too. This is a failure of the main lube/pressure regulator in the pressure control valvebody.

I have seen torque converters burnt and even blued due to oil starvation failure - Once that happens you need a new torque converter too (scrap ones are hit or miss as you dont know if the scrapyard ones also experienced the same and the scrappie just flushed out the converter with some fresh oil)

I am having this same exactly same issue with my civic 2007 model(reborn). Changed the gear too but the problem is still there. I don't know what to do it's been around 25 days now and I am facing the same issue today i went to the 5th electrician and he did the same thing cleaned the sensor (Choti valve body) and put it back on. and checked the wirings. If the problem is still there I will go to him tomorrow again as he said masla dobara aya tou subha gari lay aen. I am actually frustrated right now and thing of throwing away the engine and replace is with the new one. Please guide me and tell me what should i do!

The D light blinking was gone after the gear change also I the gear oil used was Honda ATF as written on the stick

The only thing I can do is experiment as I can't find anybody solid. It's Indeed frustrating to be helpless in such a situation.
The best I could do is not drive the car , so I kept it parked to minimize damage.
Now the gear is being dismantled and hopefully that idiot will spot an issue inside that he can fix. We already have an old gearbox for any donor parts.
Just curious - any idea how do physically spot a bad torque converter? Bent fin?

I understand your point but fact is that it's close to impossible to get a brand new gear box for a 10 yr old car in Pakistan. It may be possible abroad but here it isn't. Hence only option is for junk/scrapyard items that we can open up, inspect and put in hoping that they're o

A 10 year old model automatic transmission can be rebuilt with brand new parts, but you will definitely not like to the price tag with it. I actually used to rebuild automatic transmissions when I had my shop there, I also had some ready sitting on shelf with refreshed/rebuilt torque converter, and for Hondas I always did the globally recognized tweak to ensure the transmission always had lube flow.

Back at that time, the cost of a shelved or rebuilt unit with TC was Rs 100,000/- or nearabouts (when dollar was 55-60). And replacement radiator if original is clogged beyond help. Customers who wanted solid reliability paid that 100k, as usual 3rd and 4th owners of older models preferred scrap.

I sourced the torque converters from Ukraine or Georgia along with rebuild kits.

In todays money 1650/- usd will become close to 265000/- rs. I dont think even 1% of 10 year old model Honda civic owners in Pakistan will pay that. Russian roulette ensues then.
