If you slice open the torque converter case/pump cover you wont be able to find a shop that can weld it back together. (No, a lathe machine chuck is not a turntable for welding)

If your torque converter smells burnt and has blued casing, its scrap, the sprag, the torrington bearings, the stator support, the clutch pack and release system in there, all are useless in that condition.

I am in Lahore and found a guy who know what torque converter is and the issue and said I can check if the converter is gone. He won't repair he asked to claim the gear that was changed and replace it with another one and check if the other one works fine Monday is the day. Just as a precaution I have gotten the torque converter replaced with a fresh used one. Can't get a new one here unfortunately

Aa much as I understand what you're saying and the ideal line of action, we're bound by the fact that market is littered with weird mechanics and good workshops (like your ex-workshpp) are close to none. If you do have some friends in Karachi who can pull this off (even at a price) please do refer so I can get this issue fixed the right way

UPDATE: Issue seems to have been resolved.

Took the car to the same Technician. (This time) he dismantled the transmission. First removed it from the engine and dismantled the housing.

He had another donor transmission at the shop which had bad solenoids etc. That we used as a donor.

Then replaced the internal valve body from the donor unit, while retaining the gear sprockets and other components from mine. Also, checked the torque converter which thankfully was OK (no burning smell or any damage superficially - cant cut it open ofcourse).

Seems to have solved the problem. The shifting is pretty smooth now and the car is very responsive.

I am not sure about the ATF Fluid he put in (it did say DW-1 but the brand was something different than honda. Thinking of a drain-and-refill of HOnda DW-1)

If the issue is resolved then its good but if it comes back (allah na karay) I suggest swapping a manual gearbox. Automatics cant be properly repaired in Pakistan and if there is somebody like xulfiqar who can do the job, the cost of parts is extremely high.

Seems to have been resolved, yes..
My plan otherwise is to personally import a gearbox from Japan or any other country that has it.

And yes its a pity we dont have people like Xulfiqar around in Karachi/Pakistan anymore.

Xulfiqar Sb, i have Merc C180 1999 and it has rough idle, sometime at starting, and do not start at all. And while driving the car starts rough idling and rpm goes from 5 to 10 than back 5 and vice versa. Mechanic is unable to diagnose it, sometimes he say its actuator throttle body, sometime he say MAF, fixes issue temporarly but it comes back. Now from yesterday it started again.. Kindly advice.
