CNG - Worth it or Messing up your engine?

I look around and looks like most cars sold in Pakistan now are CNG converted.

Totally understand the fact that Gasoline prices has probably gone out of roof and a "safer" reliable solution was needed.

But how does it work? Do car companies sell cars, factory installed CNG systems? Is there any sort of safety testing performed on this system?

As I beleive, in order for CNG to operate, a car must have a CNG gas tank riding on/under its belly. How safe is that?

well sum car companies do offer factory fitted cng kits while the so called better brands such as honda and toyota dont do so....safety is never really taken into consideration here but its not that the kits ride under the belly..they are "safely" packed away in the trunk so u only need to worry abt rear collisions that too in hatchbacks...in all its pretty unsafe and cars performance sucks but wot can u do???petrol prices are sky rocketing and cng is the cheaper grreener way to go...

as for the safty testing...if it doesnt fail the first time u fill up..itll prob last a while...cuz lets face it..no1 cares

cng cars r never safe as ur carryin a big gac cylinder in da trunk,1 major accident from the rear n ur a gonner...performance sukz as well,cng isnt suitable for carby cars n isnt a prb for efi cars,provided tuned frm a good mechanic

different people will give you different answers to the question, i personally have no objection in having cng in the car

i have had two cars on cng, civic 88 which we ran for over 100,000 km on cng without any problem and cultus 2000 which now have over 40,000 km on clock with cng. The only "issue" we have ever had is regular oil change and maintained (if you care to call it problem)

so yeah as you can see its a great money saver but than there are people who will swear that cng is the worst thing ever invented

There is a mandatory test by HDIP for all cng vehicles after every 5 years but i have rarely seen people bothering about it. They dont even care about the family members and kids let alone the others around them.

I personally think that if your car is well maintained. CNG doesnt gives you and trouble.

A very important point in CNG safety is the cylinder. mostly people ask the CNG installer about the Kit's brand and the size of cylinder. (Not the brand of cylinder). get a good brand cylinder and you are more safe.Like Inprocil/faber/dolmine. try to keep away from EKC.(indian)

i had 3 cars on cng,none of them ran well xcept for my factory fitted cng cultus,i got all ma cars chkd from literally 20+ mechanics,same prbs every time so the solution i did was,sold my 3 cng cars n bought 2 petrol cars n running on petrol problem free

also... it takes A LOT of time to balance out the extra money you pay for a cng kit... it aint worth it

i hate CNG because i dont like queue, also it kills the engine, in europe and us you can't even park your cng/lpg car truck in public or underground parking.
proud to be an ANTI-CNG.

That old school when people used to say CNG is not safe!!
those cylinders are tested at high temp and thrown from great heights before then are even labled with any brand!!!

like hell CNG is safe now

although i dont have it in my car (too risky) hehehe

CNG is compressed gas, unlikely to explode

any chemical engr can explain more, any1?
